I'm happy that apps like Netflix are finally out from behind the paywall. That was always ridiculous.

I'm not so happy about Microsoft dropping the Kinect so quickly. Personally I wanted to see what developers could do with the hardware this generation. Now I can't imagine many studios will be interested, if they ever were.

Also, can anyone verify whether Games with Gold is transforming into a PS+ type service? Seems to be conflicting reports.
  • Free games with Games with Gold**. Since Games with Gold launched on Xbox 360 a year ago, over 12 million people have enjoyed great free games, resulting in nearly 200 million hours of free fun playing Games with Gold titles. We’ve been learning from your feedback and have focused on making improvements each month to the selection of titles. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Games with Gold for Xbox 360 and as a thank you for helping shape this program, members will receive an additional free Xbox 360 game in June. The Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 in June are “Dark Souls,” “Charlie Murder” and a bonus game of “Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.” We’re pleased to bring Games with Gold to Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One in June. Members will have subscription-based access to free games ranging from top hits to breaking indie stars. The program will launch on Xbox One with “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault.” A single Gold membership will get you access to the free games for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Hmm, it's still a little vague. Technically the current service is subscription based, it just allows games to be kept once the subscription expires. But it does sound like it could be a PS+ type service. If it is, and Microsoft is indeed moving away from a reward program to a rental service, then the games should get better, if only to compete with Sony.

This will most likely help quite a bit, but, IMO, it's still $50 too much.

Yeah this. I really think as people know the XBO is not as powerful, I think it has to be £50 cheaper to make a big difference.

Seriously? Anybody that thinks it needs to be £50 cheaper than the PS4 obviously doesn't know how small the power difference is.

It's a great console with great games and plenty more coming. Worth every penny!

He meant £50 cheaper overall, not £50 cheaper than PS4. £50 cheaper than PS4 would be £300 which is £130 cheaper than current price aka $200 reduction. Way too much, they'd lose too much money.

They'll reduced the cost to £350 to match the PS4 which is a good decision.

Hmm, pie.

flip flopping like a US politician these days. anyone who has confidence in this company is delusional to the extreme level of religious fundamentalists.

right tell me which company is making money every quarter and which is losing money every quarter?

WWE and TNA?

Hope they improve the UI. I've heard it's a mess without Kinect

Actually....they are adopting both models.

I get free Dark Souls and Super Street Fighter 4 in June for 360, which I get to keep no matter what. So no hypocrisy here. Best of both worlds. 360 has the better model IMO, and X1 uses the model PS fans praise Sony for.

I wish there was some consistency between this gen and last, for both companies. We have the PS3 with free online, then the PS4 with online behind a paywall. Then you have games you keep on the 360 and then games you "rent" on XBone. Both companies hide behind "your subscription carries across multiple consoles", but its mildly deceptive unless you pay really close attention to the fine print. Granted, they did tell us up front the differences between this gen and last, but they only say it in a sentence or two (like how Sony tried to sneak in online behind a paywall at E3 and they only talked about it in greater depth when they got "caught")

Anyway, is MS continuing the "games you own no matter what" model for 360, after June? I mean, I got games I could keep forever after the PSN blackout as a "thank you for your support". The wording is confusing in the article. They talk about celebrating the anniversary of Games with Gold...then say that XBL members will have subscription based access to games, not specifying if that was only for XBone or if it was for both consoles.

Looks like the 360 model isn't changing. They merely announced 3 games instead of 2 that they will give out for free. If they did that would warrant some further clarification. I don't own a X1 so I can't speak for its services and what it will/won't get.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

this tweet pretty much tells how it is:

people rip on Nintendo for refusing to face reality and change course and rip on Microsoft for correcting their mistakes

That's a lazy tweet. Does he really think the people who rip on Nintendo for not changing are the EXACT same people who rip on Microsoft for correcting their mistakes?

lol, this ain't PS2/Xbox or Wii/360 graphics gaps.

Yes it is. That's exactly what it is.

Sigh.....good day sir.

Just try to be as happy about this great news day as 4 cons (price, kinect bundle, app Gold paywall, and Games for Gold) have been swiftly addressed.

I'm happy. Read my earlier posts.

I just want the price to lower further. Doesn't need to be much. First price drop, whenever it happens, will probably be enough.
