Ok, so please honest here. How would you feel if they made a game which had a Black guy and people started posted things like:

"The blacks sure want special treatment eh? This is a kid's game. I don't want this kind of propaganda around my family. I don't want my daughter to get any ideas about dating a black dude. Why include a black character in a kid's game?"

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

That's the whole thing I'm trying to say.  I plan on buying Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and X (if it comes out this year), and none of them has a person of color that I have seen.  I am not complaining and will buy those games.

Saying that, I do understand.  No one wants to feel like a lesser person.  Just want to enjoy what the straight take for granted.  But I tell you as a straight,  I don't get everything I want.

I think we're arguing about different things. Most of us are fine buying any kind of game whether we can identify with the main character or not. My problem is with the backlash that people get for simply requesting a patch that allows same sex relationships. This is not asking  the developers of Bayonetta to make her lesbian and have a story about her and her gf, but giving an option which doesn't harm anyone, including kids or take considerable effort for the developers.

I find the the notion of "keep that away from my kids" insulting.

Why do you find that insulting?  If a couple has a kid(s), they would want their children to do the same.

"We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change this game’s design, and such a significant development change can’t be accomplished with a post-ship patch. At Nintendo, dedication has always meant going beyond the games to promote a sense of community, and to share a spirit of fun and joy. We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone. We pledge that if we create a next installment in the Tomodachi series, we will strive to design a game-play experience from the ground up that is more inclusive, and better represents all players. That would imply that by playing a life sim, one can change his sexual orientation, which is ridiculous. I don't think there is any study that can support this.

That's all they had to say.

This is getting old quick. Im tired of the gay community screaming their rights are being violated everytime their lifestyle is not included in something. So you know what I think im going to down to the gay district and walk into adult video store and bitch to the owner there is know straight porn here and my rights have been violated because I have been discriminated against. Its big B.S. I think its only around 7 to 8 percent of the world are homosexual. Shut up.  Are you being beaten on daily basis? Are gays being lynched? Are gays being sprayed by firehoses? The answered to those are no. So until that is happening stop yelling about your rights.

Sigh. Once again somebody failing to grasp a simple concept. A gay movie store is so called because it stocks gay movies. If it stocked straight pornos, it would just be an adult movie store. They specialise so that there is no confusion and save the blushes of any people who may get confused. Nobody is "yelling" or "screaming" about rights. To put it as simply as possible, in a life simulator, it would be nice to be able to simulate our own lives in this cute fantasy world that Nintendo has created. And without that option, there seems little reason to play it. And you say "only" 7/8%? Out of 7 billion people, that's a hell of a lot of people.

Great response. Even if nothing happens, they address the problem, which is that they can't just patch something like that in (as many, myself included  thought they could). Whether it's PR bs or not, I still see it as a positive reaction.

You are talking marriage in which you can now marry in a few states, but I'm looking at the big picture.  I'm talking about everything.  You want to get married.  You want to be in the military (Don't ask don't tell).  You want to raise kids.  You want Nintendo to put that in their game.... Lol.

What a silly thing to say. The gays just want to treated and represented fairly and equally.

The Sims have been doing this shit for years. I don't understand what's taking the Japanese so long to accept this - especially when most of their anime is yaoi-fan art.

This game isn't the Sims guys....you don't really control any of the characters and it is obviously for a different target audience. This game is just supposed to be ridiculous and silly, not make any social commentary...If you don't like the fact that there are no homosexual relationships in the game, don't buy the game. You are entitled to your opinions, but the amount of outrage over this is absolutely ridiculous...

Also...your over-generalization of anime is pretty ridiculous. I get hyperbole but usually it is supposed to have some basis in reality....that is beside the point though...

I'd also like to point out I'm not getting my knickers in a twist over this. I'm just disappointed as I was looking forward to it and creating a little virtual world for myself and the people I love. I didn't even think about this before the news because, as naive as I am, I forgot that these things are still left out. Because sometimes I forget and think we live in a world where people are able to have freedom and inclusion in everything as long as their actions don't hurt or endanger anybody else.

Also, to the straight people here who are complaining about gay people asking to be included, if it has nothing to do with you and nobody is trying to spoil it for you, why do you even feel the need to speak up? It's because of the persistence of the "us and them" culture that goes on. It's really sad. All of my friends bar one, both male and female are all straight. And when it feels like a "we" and not a "us and them" it feels amazing. I must just be blessed to have such awesome friends huh?

That may very well be true, but a parent (some parents) want the best for their kids.  And even though that might not change his or her sexual orientation, a straight parent is going to damn sure try.  That's just being a parent.
