Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo response to Tomodachi gay issue... me happy :)

The fact that anybody is making a big deal out of this is ridiculous...

First of all, there is a huge misunderstanding that at one point in time, there was a bug that allowed same sex marriage and Nintendo took it out. That is simply not true. Weeks ago, this was discussed, yet for some reason this is all coming out now (without the context of the original things that were said)...heres some snippets for ya:

-"First, as a result of a mistake in comprehension of Japanese, some people misinterpreted Japanese reports and fan activity and thought same-sex relationships were possible. This occurred because they saw Japanese fans posting game screenshots of male and female Mii characters, where female Mii characters were designed and clothed in such a way that they looked male. Since these explanations were made in Japanese by the Japanese fans who posted the images, the Japanese people do not have such a misunderstanding."

-"Second, a critical bug occurred in the original Japanese version of the game which made it impossible for the player to continue the game. When Mii characters were imported from a Wii console, or the previous game in the Tomodachi Collection series on Nintendo DS (which was only released in Japan), into the Nintendo 3DS version, it could lead to scrambled Mii data within the Nintendo 3DS version.

This could result in different Miis being randomly assigned to existing in-game relationships, such as already married Mii, or as just one other example, giving the appearance of same-sex relations. Because this bug caused the inability for the player to save the game data and continue the game, we released a patch."

As you can see, its not that a feature was removed, its that a game breaking bug was fixed. As Nintendo has stated, they are using the code from the Japanese version of the game, and writing in this new feature would be an unnecessary amount of work...

Honestly, if you want your character to be involved in a "same-sex relationship", all you have to do is switch the gender of your Mii and design it to look like your gender. Its a bit of a work-around but it is pretty darn easy and would solve most of the issues that allowing homosexual relationships would bring up.

I was going to buy this, but now what's the point? I don't really want a fictional world with me in it as a straight man because I'm not and I don't want to be.

Despite my avatar, I'm a person of color.  I don't say " Oh, there isn't a Black African American guy so I'm not buying the game".

Umm... I don't say that about every game. I'm saying it about a game where I make a virtual "me" basically. Which I would like to do true to life - it's a life simulator after all. So don't band this crap around. I have hundreds of games which I buy regardless of anything to do with gender etc but I'm choosing not to buy a sim where I cannot simulate me.

And guess what everyone who has misinformed and simplistic views and who lack understanding - I love all forms of media and reading/watching/seeing movies with *shock horror* men talking falling in love with women, women falling for the guy, romance between man and woman etc. I don't and never have wanted everything to be gay. I just want to be able to choose to make myself and my husband in a simulator!! Is this too difficult to grasp?

Ok, so please honest here. How would you feel if they made a game which had a Black guy and people started posted things like:

"The blacks sure want special treatment eh? This is a kid's game. I don't want this kind of propaganda around my family. I don't want my daughter to get any ideas about dating a black dude. Why include a black character in a kid's game?"

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

Can I marry mannequin in the game? Or OS? How about having 3 wives?

This argument - again!!! Ffs. How do you go from two consenting adults in love wanting to be together to marrying a fucking inanimate object?! This is such a shallow, dense argument that screams ignorance about pretty much everything.

That's the whole thing I'm trying to say.  I plan on buying Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and X (if it comes out this year), and none of them has a person of color that I have seen.  I am not complaining and will buy those games.

Saying that, I do understand.  No one wants to feel like a lesser person.  Just want to enjoy what the straight take for granted.  But I tell you as a straight,  I don't get everything I want.

This is getting old quick. Im tired of the gay community screaming their rights are being violated everytime their lifestyle is not included in something. So you know what I think im going to down to the gay district and walk into adult video store and bitch to the owner there is know straight porn here and my rights have been violated because I have been discriminated against. Its big B.S. I think its only around 7 to 8 percent of the world are homosexual. Shut up.  Are you being beaten on daily basis? Are gays being lynched? Are gays being sprayed by firehoses? The answered to those are no. So until that is happening stop yelling about your rights.

I think we're arguing about different things. Most of us are fine buying any kind of game whether we can identify with the main character or not. My problem is with the backlash that people get for simply requesting a patch that allows same sex relationships. This is not asking  the developers of Bayonetta to make her lesbian and have a story about her and her gf, but giving an option which doesn't harm anyone, including kids or take considerable effort for the developers.

I find the the notion of "keep that away from my kids" insulting.

You say Ned Neffer does not love Teagan? Or Theodore does not love Samantha? Or Bill Henrickson does not love Barb, Nicollete and Margene?

When people pull the "love" argument they just show how ignorant they are about what the original and true purpose of marriage was/is - the empire/state (SLAVER) needs its citizens (SLAVES) to produce more minions/work force to ensure the survival of the empire/state, and best way for that is monogamous marriage, giving reasonable chance for beta males to procreate.

Anyway, without having any intention of going into this topic (so please don't bother replying to it), my original questions just show how it's not all so black/white.

At the end, it's their game, they can do whatever the hell they want with it, it's up to the audience to buy it or not.

The Sims have been doing this shit for years. I don't understand what's taking the Japanese so long to accept this - especially when most of their anime is yaoi-fan art.
