Lol I was the one of the people that stated that production cost drops as time passes he was like it won't drop and production cost raises and some other nonsense every knows production costs drop after it's been on the market for awhile that is the reason companies can do price drops etc ....nintendo is a very smart company that is probably one  of the reasons why they didnt bring out a lot of software the first few months so they can make a killing on mario kart software  and may do a price drop when super smash comes out since every wii u is now sold at a profit

Have we actually gotten the quote about Wii U's profitability yet?  Another possibility is that it was in reference to the MK8 bundle which is $30 more than the current bundles in the US.

And I would like to know what the actual quote is, and what the context was.  They have multiple sku's at different prices, and prices differ from territory to territory.

"WiiU target of 3.6m units will need more manufactured than in current inventory"  Also suggests they will still be working through their current inventory for at least some period of time.  Is that inventory currently profitable, or will it be the newly manufactured units?

If production costs stay the same or increase, they will not be able to afford to drop the price. Hence, a price cut will show that the "production costs won't drop" argument was incorrect.
