Forums - Gaming - I don't get Microsoft's new Xbox tactic

I completely agree with some of the things you said but you failed to realize when Sony first came out with the ps3[2006], Multimedia and streaming  was not as big as it is today. Even cell phones are now smart phones..Many people never realy cared so much for that stuff. As the everything changes over the years, it is very much looking that an All in one device is the way to go for many people. This is 2014, not 2006. Yes, ps4 is more powerful than x1. X1 intergrate the multimedia features better than Sony's ps4 [at least to me].   Could it be that people are making a big deal of the whole tv thing on x1 because it's Microsoft? would they have the same backlash if it was sony? something to think about O_o

They made a big deal out of it becasue ms took their game console and turned into into something else.  It been clear they focused more on tv then the actuaal games and well surprise surprise it pissed off gamers and they responded, just look at the sales.

A lot of people will only have one TV and so will want something under it that can cover as many bases as possible, and maybe for some people that is Xbox.  You're not in that situation.  p.e.o.p.l.e.a.r.e.d.i.f.f.e.r.e.n.t.

while i get that p.e.o.p.l.e.a.r.e.d.i.f.f.e.r.e.n.t,... the average US household has 3.1 TVs.    ...and i'd be willing to bet the housholds able to purchase a $500 gaming machine are far more likely to have more than 1 tv than the households unable to afford xbone.

Participants in the average marriage don't typically sit in different rooms doing totally different things all night long like you claim you and your wife do.

If the game is on, I don't wanna be stuck watching Pretty Little Liars or whatever nonsense is on these days. Also, children.

As far as I am concerned, most people had a problem with the drm stuff.. and now that's gone..Sales numbers are to blame on mostly on price.

Let the xbox one be 399 or 299,..watch and see the skyrocketing sales. [hence those 2 weeks price cuts in uk].

Xbox is just the first step for Microsoft to try and get in our living rooms. Also with going with a game console you have a fan base from the get go and they do not have to start from scratch, if they fail they can just focus on games.

I understand that they have this base to start from, but most gamers don't care about this stuff and the PS4 is just mainly a better choice.

Maybe I should've made a better reply there. What I really mean is that they don't care about it for the extra 100 dollar price tag. They also know that the PS4 will get more multimedia fuctions, thus for now the PS4 is clearly the better choice. And looking at sales people seem to agree.

i never said all night long.   but when american idol, the voice, x-factor or any of that other shit my wife wants to watch goes on i leave posthaste.  she hates gaming as much as i hate shitty tv so it works.

honestly, based on your reply you are either single or lying to yourself.

I realize that it's not 2006 anymore, and if the PS4 had all those features, resulting in a higher price, like I said before, I would still say "PS4 has all this, that's why it's worth it". Problem being, I haven't been saying the exact opposite for the last 8 years. 360 being the cheapest console to get games/extra features don't matter was a talking point literally up til the XBone reveal when Kinect being bundled with the console and all the TV stuff was announced. Now "justified price" matters to Xbox fans and I'm led to believe that it is just because MS is doing it. I never said that the extra stuff doesn't make the XBone worth its value. But for a [general] group of people for 8 years to say extra stuff doesn't matter, only games, and then end up with an expensive console with extra stuff...all of a sudden it's cool to have extra stuff. I'm just calling out the hypocrisy.

There is nothing new with what Microsoft is trying to do. Do you not remember when the 360 was the only console you could watch Netflix on? How about ESPN 3? And it's not like they are trying to hide it. They flat out stated with the 360 their goal was eventually take over the living room. It is all just coming to fruition on the Xbox One.

I just don't understand why Microsoft is being singled out by the gaming community for this. Sony is attempting the exact same thing with the PS4. You can purchase movies and music. You broadcast videos on the internet. There are a variety of different apps to use...but the PS4 isn't a media device? Come on...people making this argument can't truly believe it.

And what is wrong with it anyway? Yes, there are other devices in homes that can do the same thing. But it is really nice to have it all in one place. I love the fact that I can go from watching TV, to playing a game, to Netflix by voice commands. Being able snap apps while not interrupting a show or game is awesome. Having the Xbox one control my whole entertainment system is great.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 have some great games to play (The Wii U is crushing them both when it comes to quality games. But that is a whole other debate). Why not have all the extra bells and whistles.

Weren't ps owners praising and bragging that ps3 had bluray and could do more multimedia than xbox 360? Now Ms is trying to up their multimedia features, now it's a problem to ps owners? See the hypocrisy ?
