And the Smash tournament sounds awesome. It's a great idea to involve the competitive community and drum up hype for the new game.

That's actually the real surprise here. I thought outside of Pokemon, Nintendo doesn't care about the competitive side of their games, especially Smash Bros., but after their recent direct and now this, it seems things have changed!

They are making themselves "exclusive" similar to Disney or Apple. Genius if you ask me. A risk, but genius. Sony and MS can fight it out in the trenches whereas Nintendo will make no official appearence. Makes them appear important in our deepest thoughts.

important? is that why the WIi U have been doing so much better than PS4/one...wait.

Nope. I never said it was outselling anything else. Remind me, do apple computers outsell Microsoft? No. Instead they have loyal followers and have a brand. Playstation and Xbox have a brand for their hardware but hardly exist in software.

Seeing the reactions to the Zelda U reveal would have been nice! Oh well! That's not THAT big of a loss after all!

again. Why not do both? not being at e3 sends a message that Ninty isnt taking this whole thing seriously and in turn people wont take them seriously. Doesnt matter what some forum goers say. a ND is not a substitute as the people watching does are Ninty fans already. But hey they can do what they want. But im thinking we arent going to see much new if anything at E3

Thumps up. People need to wake up and see the reality. Just because some are ok doesn't mean everyone else is. Companies moves by interests and press is not interest anymore in cover Nintendo.

ND are watched by us, Nintendo fans, and we will watch a live conference or a pre-recorded ND, but not anyone else. Most prefer those conferences, crappy or good.

This. It always amazes me how some fans continue to make excuses when Ninty's Wii U isnt doing hot. So its a good idea to do the same thing they did last year? real smart. Some Ninty fans dont mind but it really doesnt matter what they think as most would back and buy whatever Ninty is putting out anyway. Its the rest of the folks that need convincing and this is not the way to do it IMHO.

I'm sure some people on Youtube will livestream themselves watching the event, so nothing lost for those who actually care about other people's reactions. :L

The problem is that the console will keep struggling and won't recognize that these kind of decisions are part of the failure.

If only people cared more about the content itself rather than how the content is presented, then we wouldn't have people whining about this!

I think the people 'whining' as you so generously put it are upset that the content will be shown to only a 10th-to-a-100th of the people.

Nintendo's livestream last year - 150k

Sony's livestream on Twitch alone - 15,000,000

Why would Nintendo kick themselves in the butts like that and show the new games to only a small group of people who would be buying them anyway? When they could show to a larger audience and get them excited, too?

I think that matters.

people who didn't watch either but got the news later anyway: basically everyone.

bad comparison as those companies are actully doing GOOD or better than the comp. Ninty cant say that so they are in no position. They arent appearing important to ANYONE that was my point, if they did WIi U woudl be doing much better. Their software isnt helping them either.

You can't compare 10 videos of individuals reactions to one with a crowded audience crying and screaming.

No mistake. The people it is aimed at will see it one way or another. I think Smeags Nintendo E3 thread last year was just as big as any other year. It would just be nicer of them to actually have a conference. So I can watch it on tv instead of my slow computer.

thats the problem they just cant aim it at people who were already interested in the first place. They need to get it to people who WERENT interested.
