"Which is why Nintendo’s new plans to fight the power and change things up again with Play Nintendo are so much better. They’re going to do a Nintendo Digital Event at 9am PST on June 10, 2014, constantly run Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 video demos, hold a Super Smash Bros. tournament with 16 professional gamers, and have Super Smash Bros. demo stations set up at Best Buys across the United States. It’s a four-pronged plan that provides exactly the right amount of coverage.

The key is how fragmented coverage is. There will be something for everyone with the Play Nintendo E3 2014 extravaganza. The Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 idea is perfect for people who are interested in specific games (that aren’t Super Smash Bros.) and want to see them in action with developer commentary. Knowing Nintendo, the company will probably even have videos arranged in such a way that people will always know exactly what title is streaming and can find missed footage."

Very interesting - like I said before - this could work out well - if it doesn't we can bitch about it afterwards

From the link Pavolink just shared, Forbes - a business publication - is saying things about Nintendo like:

"From the sound of it, it almost seems like Nintendo has contracted a permanent case of stage fright."

"By avoiding a stage show, it seems like Nintendo may not have all that much to say or show compared to their competition."

"Nintendo having taped presentations half the length of their competitor’s only seems to reinforce the notion that they’re not on the same level any more."

" It used to be a yearly three way slug-fest, but now it’s just Microsoft vs. Sony with Nintendo running the risk of being eclipsed in terms of relevance by someone like Oculus."

And the kicker:

"Nintendo has a lot to prove in an increasingly crowded video game space, one where the Xbox One and PS4 are shattering their predecessor’s records, while the Wii U continues to struggle. Nintendo almost seemed like a non-factor at last year’s E3 with their extremely limited presence and lack of a live presentation. It’s unclear why they thought that was a successful way to present themselves, and why they’re doing more of the same this year."

This sound like good coverage to you? This is in FORBES, mind you - this is likely to be the first thing Forbes readers have heard about Nintendo since the last quarterly earnings call and the slashed stock value.

Good choice?

It's a forbes blog. It has about as much meaning as a tumblr.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Who gives a shit about E3? Smash Bros at Best Buy!!!

There is no good reason for them to skip the E3 Conference unless they feel like they just don't have enough to show and/or they want to hide behind digital walls and/or they don t want the potential live feedback a conference offers- They just are not willing to take the risk of a live conference even though the Wii U needs desperately the potential rewards of a successful conference

The message of skipping the conf is not a message of confidence or pride. They should be at presetting at the conf in a big way offering a clear message to the gaming public of why they need to buy a Wii U "today" and how great it will be for those of us that own a Wii U already- (unless they just don t have the goods to show or they know what they have will (cumulatively) disappoint

That one i'm more worried about, honestly. Last year i would've had to drive 4 hours to get to a Best Buy doing an event like that. They better do more, even if some Best Buys just get a demo disc and that's all.

Why cant they do all of these events/activities AND top it off with a triuphant Conf?   I like alot of their ideas if they were in addittion to an E3 conf

I guess Iwata still thinks Nintendo can not and should not compate with Sonly and MSFT-  I was hopng he had figured out by now that they are his primary competiton among others weather he likes it or not

That's what I don't understand either. Why make it either/or?

One of my favourite gaming memories this gen.

It was absolutely hilarious. If Nintendo have no intention of reproducing a conference of such hilarity, then they best not bother having a conference at all.

It is hard to argue witht the points in the Forbes article-   Their avoidece of the coference is very symbolic- even the most casul of gamers beleive Nintendo competes w MSFT and Sony-  to not show up at the conf sends the wrong message-  (I know they are attending e3- by Confernce i mean the big stage presentation)

Not a mistake. I enjoyed their last year's E3... The conferences are boring.
