Mine HAS to be the 7th gen. The Wii with a refreshing controller and the DS with an amazing library of games, hell yeah! This generation doesn't really feel special at all to me (yet) but I still think it'll end up fantastic.

6th.

PS2 and the original Xbox were awesome
Japanese gaming was at a high
New IPs everywhere
No DLC, no online passes, no day 1 patches
No twitter or other ways of communicating regularly to devs and publishers, less gamer entitlement imo
Good memories of buying the official Playstation & Xbox magazines and playing all the demos each month

6th cause Gamecube, PS2, and Dreamcast were all simply amazing. Also had the most diversity in terms of games.

5th (N64/PS1's generation).

Gaming was basically perfect back then, it seemed nearly every developer was able to give some kind of 'soul' to their games. Every game felt fresh and original. The 5th Gen still holds many of my favorite games of all-time.

4th, 5th, and 6th are all really close. Those three generations, to me, are the golden age of gaming. I went through my top 50 list and found, surprisingly, that 6th gen games have a plurality. So I'm going with 6th.

Games like Halo:CE, Deus Ex, RE4, Half-Life 2, Ico, and Metroid Prime put it over the top.

Even though the N64 is probably my fav. console of all time, I have to go with the 6th gen on this one.

The Wind Waker, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Shenmue I + II take this home single-handedly.

5th gen when it seemed there was no such thing as a bad game from Rare or Nintendo. Every release from them was solid gold!

3D gaming was still new and fresh, dev time was short, innovation abounded, and there was a sparsity of obtrusive websites and social media telling you which games you were supposed to like.
