Forums - Gaming - Playstation vs Nintendo 64

What's your favourite?

Playstation 343 52.61%

Nintendo 64 307 47.09%

Total:650

The N64 is the better console amount of games or qualtiy of games etc have no relevance here.

The then cool CG graphics that now look like shit VS no loading screens? = No loading screens win.

2 players VS 4 players = 4 players win.

dpad thingy VS analog stick = analog stick wins
(comparing it to the newer PS1 versions would be unfair because that is not standard so not everyone had a dualshock)

The N64 also didnt really need memory cards (just a few games did)

the N64 also had more power (but thats less relevant)

since all of those wins are relevant for gameplay and stuff like CG graphics is NOT (because I want a game not a movie) that means the N64 wins.

Everyone thinking games = console  is doing it wrong.

I'm surprised N64 has as many votes as it does. PS1 all the way, for various reasons.

I am not  surprised! It did have many awesome games like Paper Mario and Star Fox 64!

N64 triumphs over any ps console.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Eh it dpeends if you ask me.

Playstation i thought was by far the better single player system with games like Front Mission 3, Tactics Ogre, Wild Arms etc.

However N64 dominated multiplayer with Golden Eye, Mario Kart, Super and Smash Brothers.

I'd way the single player aspect slightly more important, so I'd say the PS1.  But I can see people argue either.

I think, if anything, Tomb Raider is underrated. It seems to be largely forgotten by fans and critics. I rarely, if ever, see it on critics' top lists and it failed to break 200 on our own "Top 250" thread. It's really a shame. I consider it one of the very best games of the fifth generation. The level design is excellent, the gameplay -- a clever mix of acrobatics, puzzle-solving, gunplay, and exploration -- is near-perfect, and the production values are stellar.

Tomb Raider was pretty good and the nude code made everything so much better!

PS had the much larger and diverse library, and had FFVII, VIII and IX. But N64 had some of the greatest games of all time, and produced better 3D images. OoT, M64, MK64 and Goldeneye are simply true classics.

At the time one might have said PS1, but I think looking back from an historical perspective I would give the nod to N64.

Voted n64. Yes, the playstation had more variety, but you really could not go wrong that generation (unless you purchased a Saturn, sorry).

The Saturn was good! 2nd best console of its generation.

Maybe it had a few good games ... I don't know I never had one so maybe that makes me a little biased. I think it moved less than 10 million systems compared to 33 million n64 and the over 100 million ps1 so numbers were not on its side.

To me, it also represents the point when Sega's downfall became inevitable despite the mostly solid Dreamcast.

I like both own both but I like Saturn over both. Had a good US librabry but an amazing Japanese one to import over and had the better versions of some games on PS1. Like Grandia. Saturn for sure.

Why do people always leave out Saturn?

Both very iconic and amazing consoles, but the PS1 just had way more games and way more genres. I go with the PS1.

I didn't know Playstation existed when I had my N64, so I obviously voted N64. PS1 had some of my favorite all time, but I played all of them on PS2.
