Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is Titanfall Considered a Big Exclusive for XB1 but FFXIV not for PS4?

Both games are on the PC and last gen system. But for some reason people here and in general dont reconize that FF XIV is every bit as exclusive for the PS4 as Titanfall is for the XB1. Both games have just cosmetic differences from the last gen counterpart and the PS4 version of ARR actually has visual parity with the PC version.

In fact I would say FF is a bigger deal than some new shooter in a saturated market. FF IV ARR is the only true good MMO that plays well on a console, and lets not forget the fact it is an entry from one of the oldest franchises in gaming. Shooters are a dime a dozen these days.

I think the answer goes something like this. MS NEEDED Titanfall to be a system seller where as Sony is having trouble keeping up with demand as is and did not need to waste millions of dollars to hype it into oblivion.

Because Titanfall was a new game comming out only on X1 and PC with "revolutionary" first person combat that let you do so many cool things like wall run, play in giant mechs, ext.

FFXIV is a solid MMORPG that had already been out for several months on PC and PS3, so people who really wanted to play it already had played it.

Also, while Shooters are commonly played on consoles by millions of people around the world, MMOs don't have as big of a fanbase on consoles, are are traditionally played on PC as a mouse and key board is typically easier to play them with.

I would argue it is the most revolutionary game available on an 8th GEN console. Never before in the history of gaming has someone been able to NAIL a true MMO on a console, and second this is the 1st game I know of that SHARES servers between the PC version, PS3 and PS4, in fact I have never heard of a game that shares servers between 2 platforms, maybe it exist though but not on this scale. It is awsome because you play which ever version you prefer and family and friends can get what they prefer. TF maybe an evolution for FPS games but FFXIV is literally a game changer for console MMOs.

The argument is that MMOs are not popular on consoles andd FPS games are so that is the answer to the OP. I would argue past the hype FFXIV is a bigger deal, down the road will it has a chance to make MMOs viable on a console and to me that is a gamechanger.  Titanfall will be an afterthought when TF2 is release and FFXIV will still be going strong.

Because Final Fantasy is the very definition of a massive pile of turd.

Once upon a time Final Fantasy was Godly. The series was amazing.

Since 9 FF has been downhill. 10 was still ok. 11 terrible, 12 diabolicle and 13 is not even worth wasting my saliva over. Final Fantasy needs to go into the ground and never come back up.

I don't think you could really call FF14's sales modest ^^; Last we heard (about a week ago) the game has 2 million users, with an average of around 500,000 daily players.

Still, what you said is correct. Sub based MMOs often have difficulty achieving high sales, FF14 has just been a rare exception to the rule.

I hope they announce the number of people that have gone through with the free PS3 -> PS4 upgrade. That would give us a much better idea of how it's doing.

You're missing the point. It may be doing very well compared to usual MMO. But many FF fans are going to pass because they don't want pay the subscription fee. That's why we saw little hype for that Sony console exclusive.

Nobody wants to boast about an exclusive that cost ~$15 a month to play. Many people that visit these types of forums are turned off to it.

It may lose many FF fans, but it also gains MMO fans. They are perhaps the most dedicated group of gamers you will find anywhere :P

The thread isn't asking why FF14 isn't as hyped up, but why is it not considered as big an exclusive. To that i'd say that while the overall effect of TF and FF14 will be equally large, TF's is immediate but short lived while FF14's is slow and long lasting (by comparison).

The PS4 in general is going to benefit a lot from it's appeal to MMO gamers.

Isn't Titanfall basically an MMO like FFXIV: ARR. an MMOFPS rather than a MMORPG?

No, TF is just the "MO" part (Multi-player Online). The "massive" part is introduced when you have servers that are intended to hold hundreds/thousands of players that can interact and play together simultaneously and without end (excluding when the servers go down for maintenance @_@).

Once again, nobody is debating the quality of FFXIV.

The lack of hype is due to the subscription fees.
