No one would go along with that so why should we go along with receiving nothing but ports of one or two year old video games? |

You don't call publishers taking the cheap way out and porting all their games instead of developing new games a downside? Porting games obviously takes resources and manpower. Some publishers might even think that if they're going to make the same amount of money porting a title instead of creating a new title then why not make the port. If people keep buying into all these ports, more and more developers are going to jump at the idea of rerereleasing a last gen game at full MSRP instead of developing a new game. There's no guarantee this will happen but there's also no guarantee that this gen won't be flooded with last gen ports. So far that's just about all we have to play. |
The simple fact of the matter is that this is not a thing where you have to choose one or the other, ports do require resources but they don't require alot of them so making a couple of them aside of the new games is not significantly going to hurt the development of the new games.
Face it, the last couple days you've been making a big deal out of nothing, especially since you seem to put the blame solely on Sony, which is very weird to me since they have only one studio that has announced that it's working on a port and that while it's also working on a new next gen game plus one studio that is rumoured to be making a port (and that isn't even a strong rumour).
Calm down.
Prior to the announcement of The Last of Us for PS4, I seem to recall posts of people wanting a port of TLOU for the PS4, particularly from people who didn't own a PS3 but were planning on getting a PS4. Similarly, prior the the release of TLOU, I also remember several people questioning why TLOU was releasing on the PS3 late into its cycle, rather than as a launch PS4 title.
Thus, I really don't see the problem of releasing a PS4 port of TLOU, when there is almost certainly demand for it (e.g., people who have already moved onto the next console generation, changed platforms, etc.). I think it's important to remember TLOU's circumstance in releasing roughly in-between generations. Finally, even if a few developers release ports of some of their most popular titles, that doesn't mean that they're not working on new games as well.

yes I know. my comment was is in support of your idea.
If what I say happens, then no more time will ever be wasted again on ports.

But you are talking as if new games have not been released and as if nothing but ports are in the works. If that was the case then you would have a case but it is not correct. SO then there is nothing wrong with the ports because as was stated it doesn't take away a lot of the resources that were had, it is a good way for new PS4 owners to get to play some games they never got to. And old PS3 owners to get another chance at games they missed as Zekkyou stated lol.
We already know that games are in the works(Uncharted 4, The Order 1886, the new IP from GG and the new IP from MM and the new one from SSM) all have been confirmed to be in development if I am not msitaken. And I am sure there are others as well. And again we are only 5 months into the console life cycle and from what we have with multiplats and exclusives(both retail and indide) for both systems there are plenty of games to play. I think you issue is that you want more "retail exclusives" which is fine but you are not really even giving time for the games to come out. If this was a console that was over a year old then as far as "retail exclusives" go I would be in agreement with you. But seeing as we are not even a full 5 months into the the life of the consoles I just think it is a little premature to get upset about it. Just my opinion of course.

People said the same thing about the Vita a year after it launched with most of Sony's announcements as ports. Two years later and look how many ports Sony has funded for future release. Borderlands 2, Epic Mickey 2, God of War Collection, and Sly Cooper Collection are coming out in the future.
I'm going to keep up the PS4 having no games until Sony starts pushing to prove otheriwse. Like I said in another post. With the PS4selling well it's going to get less ports and more next gen multiconsole and exclusive titles, but right now it hasn't happened and both Nintendo and Microsoft are trying to support their consoles more than Sony has been.
And yes. Sony has been pushing indnies. Indie, indie, indie, indie. Where the games cost $15 and 99% of them are below average compared to most retail releases the last couple of years.

That's true. The Last Guardian still is in development. I completely forgot about that game it's been announced so long ago.

So disregard everything because The Last Gurdian hasn't come out yet? Even though all those studios I mentioned have been consistent with releasing their games....come on now lol. That is so wrong and mean lol.

If you seriously believe that the PS4 situation is going to be the same as the Vita, then I really don't know what to tell you. The Vita only gets ports in the west because everything else would be incredibly stupid with how bad the Vita is doing, it's never going to sell well in the west so financing big AAA exclusives for that thing would be like throwing money down the drain.
The situation of the PS4 is completely different cause as you said yourself, it's selling.
And saying that Nintendo and MS are trying to support their consoles better than Sony and that Sony isn't pushing to get games is once again not true, but I think we had that discussion in another thread, so I don't want to start this again.
So again, you are making a big deal out of absolutely nothing.
