Cod ghosts looks better then any fps on ps3, Its also 1080p/60fps.

Don't understand the point of this pic, I could find a pic that can make any game look bad or better then it is.

CoD Ghost isn't a pretty game on any platform. Graphics just weren't much of a concern in that game's development.

Then I respectfully disagree; as FPS games go, I'll take this over Ghosts PS4 visually:

except the game looks nothing like that, i just bought it the othere day, halo 4 on 360 looks much better, if you have a ps3 and ps4, COD ghost destroys kill zone 2 graphics. ths how cod ghosts looks like, 1080p/60fps nothing on current gen looks better.

That's not very impressive.

Am I the only one who thinks games like God of War Ascension, Uncharted 3, and Beyond Two Souls have better graphics than, say, the PS4 version of Call of Duty Ghosts?

Yes. Which is a testament to how well teams produced when exclusively working for the PS3. The trend holds further when comparing against PS4 exclusives, practically all of them(PS4 exclusives) look better than most of the PS3s exclusives (which are arguably its best looking games), art direction blurs the lines a bit here though, but it in terms of performance it is an absolute. Hopefully we get optimization tailored to the ps4 that takes advantages of its strenghts and makes up for its weakness.

Uncharted 3 would run buttery smooth 60 on ps4, although I doubt U4 will target 60 for graphics instead.

Oh this one again.Just blow up the tiny pics on a big screen and you will see the difference. The fact that TLOU gave me eye cancer and is is supposedly the best looking console game of gen 7 let's me doubt it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

why would you expect a launch game that runs with 60FPS and 1080p that is still built using a 5+ years old engine with small improvements each year to look visually better than a 30FPS 720p exclusive from 2 and a half years ago ?

This new generation hasn't made the huge leap that was made from the ps2/gamecube/original xbox generation to the ps3/360 generation and to be honest early games on new formats being compared to fully optimised games on outgoing formats is an unfair comparison.

I remember comparing original xbox games to early ps3 multiformat games and there wasn't a huge improvement in places.

I do think you need to compare the scope and ambition of the engine though. Something like Skyrim is hugely resource hungry both in gpu and cpu terms (especially cpu). It's got soo much it has to calculate. A modern fps game isn't far below with huge environments and physics to calculate plus AI etc. Some games have simplistic engines like race games where the AI needed is really just a matter of moving left or right at the correct time and wisely choosing braking and accelerating compared to most games this is very low CPU requirements. Race games are much more a test of the graphics system and how fast graphic data can be moved in than the CPU.

The PS3 is almost a two step design. Early games or less ambitious games simply use the two thread powerpc main core to run but other games make use of the six additional cell processors, some to enhance graphic performance, some to run AI, physics etc. I realise the development software itself would have evolved to make better use of the cell.

Also like the original xbox suffered from multiformat games being little enhanced over their ps2 versions the ps4 will likely suffer from its multiformat games being little enhanced over xbone. Yes we may get increased resolution or a higher frame rate or both but developers are unlikely to spend time optimising the ps4 version when they are trying to achieve parity and they struggle with xbone memory bandwidth and juggling memory around the small 32MB pool of eSRAM.

When ps3 is properly programmed it is a very impressive console but when comparing games its best to compare the same game across multiple formats. If you want to compare maximum performance of each console then yes compare exclusive games from each console. For me the ps3 is still more impressive than 360 or wii u in performance for its exclusive games. Much of this is down to the little enhancements the cell has made possible. I may think differently when I get my hands on mario kart 8 although really that game is only a graphics test rather than an indicator of cpu power. The ps3 is the complete opposite of that with its huge cpu/dsp capacity thanks to its cell processor. The wii u vs ps3 is like comparing a PC with a mid range gpu and low end cpu vs a low end gpu and mid range cpu. Both have their strengths in different areas.

Well, something like Uncharted 3 may look better but PS3 couldn't run the Ps4 version of CoD. The resolution and frames alone make a huge difference to the needed performance compared to Uncharted and since CoD is a cross-gen game it obviously still looks like the PS3 version just with everything touched up. So, if you would look at it from a technical standpoint Uncharted 3 is probably less impressive because of the low fps, resolution, probably worse anti-aliasing and so on but Uncharted can still look better to your eyes if you look at it without considering these things.
