We should make a sticky for people who can't stop talking about how Wii U games are technically a mess, but magically look good all because of art design. Because that argument is getting boring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVVtDpUa5Jk The game is a masterpiece. |
Funny, that was the argument of Nintendo fans for the entire 7th gen :)
I suppose it doesn't count now huh? ;)

Just because a game runs on weak hardware doesn't make it a technical mess. Besides, gameplay is more important than graphics.
Baseless generalizing gets you nowhere.

Where have i said it's a technical mess? Or made baseless generalizations?
I have said Nintendo lack graphical AMBITION, which means "to want to achieve something that typically requires a lot of work." In that respect, Nintendo haven't attempted anything graphically difficult. This wasn't a baseless generalization, i backed up what i said with several examples (such as their archaic AA method), and made sure to t use any example that i couldn't either prove or find a source for if someone asked for one.
Their games don't have bad graphics, they are simply "okay". Okay graphics + great art style is no better than great graphics + okay art style (such as killzone). This is no different than the argument made by Nintendo fans last gen, and it's one i agree with.
For a game to look truly amazing, it needs both an amazing art style and great art direction. Nintendo already have the art style locked down, so naturally i'm disappointing they haven't also tried to create something that truly shows what the WiiU can do. It's not a powerful console, but it's also not weak. It deserves better.
If i believe something is worth criticizing, i will do so. Just like how i am criticizing Nintendo here, i did about Killzone's use of FXAA, and Ryse's unstable frame rate. People are far too sensitive these days...
