Forums - Nintendo Discussion - As it stands, the 3DS lineup for the rest of 2014 is seriously lacking

The 3DS had an incredible year in 2013. Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Project X Zone, Etrian Odyssey IV, MH3, LoZ:ALBW, Bravely Default (EU), Animal Crossing:New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y and probably a few others I have forgotten.

This year so far we have had a poor Yoshi's Island game and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney.

As it stands, the rest of the year has MH4, Mario Golf, Kirby:Triple Deluxe and Smash, which also has a Wii U version.   Personally, I tried Monster Hunter last year and didn't like it and I have no interest in Mario Golf.

A lot of people talk about Wii U needing a big E3, and it does, but I think and hope that we see a lot of 3DS content that has a release date in 2014, otherwise I don't think I will be playing much 3DS this year.

I imagine 95% are going to disagree, but what are your thoughts?  What are you looking forward to on Nintendo's handheld this year?

EDIT: Although I'm not looking forward to them myself, other people have pointed out other games coming out this year :

Sonic Boom, Persona Q, Tomodachi Life, Conception 2

Called it. I agree 110%. People like to say that it's unrealistic to expect the same level of quality releases for a second year, and I think that idea is bullshit. That should be the gold standard for every year for both the Wii U and 3DS. Hire more studios and developers if you're overwhelmed Nintendo, but get your shit together.

This was expected though. They have a struggling console that needs the majority of attention. The Vita's 2014 lineup doesn't look too promising either (for comparison sake).

There's also Persona Q, which looks good. The 3DS games I'm looking forward to and am buying are Kirby, Persona Q, Smash Bros, and Mario Golf. The rest I have, or am not interested in.

I expect a few announcements at E3, but again, Wii U is and should be their priority. For most people there are games they do not have that are backlogged, as I doubt most 3DS owners have 30 games.

But I do agree with you.

I do agree that the 3ds lineup is pretty meh atm but I think Smash + Bravely Second (if that comes out this year) will make it worth while and who knows whats gonna be in e3 for the 3ds...

Overall, I think its gonna be a good year for the 3ds. 2013 was its peak and I doubt its gonna get any better than that and Nintendo needs to focus on the wiiU which they are doing so Smash along with whatever gets announced for e3 will have to keep us busy

This isn't 3DS' second year though.

How many 3DS games do you own? Just wondering.

Whatttt???

No way. 2013 was amazing year period. People comparing to it to much makes it looks like 2014 is bad, when its really not at all.

Also we dont have the full list yet. We have E3. Patiences pls

Yeah, I agree. Nintendo will most DEFINATELY not have anything big going for the last half of the year. There's no way they'll show somethings at e3, that will come out during the holidays. Nope. They've run out of ideas. What they've shown up till now, is what they've got until the last days of the 3ds life. Yes, that's it.

It's as if you didn't even bother reading the OP.

I wasn't saying that it was the 3DS' second year. I was saying that we should be having a second year like 2013 for the 3DS. As in, 2014 should be the second year that the 3DS' line up is so robust.

Hm. I own:

2 retail games

8 "full" digital games

9 indie games

7 virtual console games.

I've only had it for a year now, so most of that has been me catching up.

I think it is fair to compare this year to last.  I was never expecting a year as good as 2013 because it was incredible, but this year is a massive drop in quality and quantity imo.
