I'll be honest Seece, I've never heard of Winter 2014 being so stringently defined for product releases before. I really do think that in most Americans' minds atleast Winter includes Mid Nov. as well as all of December and then Jan and mid February. I'd assume that when it comes to something more ambiguous like product launches they use a similar system instead of a strict astronomical definition.

My guess is that it signifies that we can expect Smash in December as opposed to November (fall).

I think if they meant winter (december2014-march2015) they would have said winter 2014/15, if they only said winter 2014 they probably mean in december 2014. BAN ME ALL YOU WANT BUT IN FREEDOM WINTER IS WHEN WHITE SHIT FALL FROM THE SKY AND THAT'S DECEMBER TIL MARCH (SOMETIMES JUNE) GOD DAMN IT

They could be gearing up for a secret Zelda launch, though Hyrule Warriors kind of discounts that.

They seriously had better not be dumb enough to think they can make it through this holiday with B-list titles, or have another "Animal Crossing and Wii Music" holiday like 2008.

Hyrule Warriors exists to squeeze money out of Zelda fans.

Still think they're going to work some kind of cross-selling thing where if you buy Hyrule Warriors, you get a discount on a pre-order on Zelda U.
