You're kind of being unclear though. Assassin's creed was both a familiar brand (due to advertising) and a new IP. We can't say the same about W101. |
Assassin's Creed 1 was a new IP. From 2 onwards it's been an established brand.

Assassin's Creed 1 wasn't unfamiliar, that's what I'm getting at. Hence the healthy sales. Though it was a new IP, people knew what to expect, due to marketing and Ubi's reputation for its flagships. |
I see your point. A healthy push it needed to propel a new IP to success.
Sadly, most new IPs don't get such a push, and as a result are passed over.

I think what Curl is saying is that the reason people did not buy W101 is not because Nintendo fans don't embrace new IPs, but because gamers, across all platforms, tend to put their money on established franchises, even new ones, so long as they are supported by proper branding and marketing (e.g. Assassin's Creed or Watch Dogs). |
This is true and i agree. BUT surely their is a difference between console demographics. All i was saying is that gamers on Sony on MS machines tend to embrace new IPs more often than Ninty owners. If he didnt agree or if anyone doesnt agree thats pretty fine but counter it with something or say nothing at all. Not that is matters, we've already derailed the thread

How was AC 1 familiar? or better yey how was W101 NOT familiar. it was a top down action beat em up. About as familar as you can get. But yeah he was being unclear.

A new IP where you control a hundred little characters at once in a Saturday morning cartoon meets kaiju eiga style, looks like Pikmin but plays like Bayonetta. There's little else out there much like it.
