Seeing the retro track comparisons is especially striking. It's clear that as far as one iteration of a Nintendo game to the next, this is one monumental leap.

It doesnt need extra RAM. PS3 already has games that blow MK 8 out of the water, both exclusives and multiplatforms. MK8 is a cartooney linear racer after all. There are PS3 games from 2007 that even look comparable like this (GT5P and Ratchet and Clank TOD)

So you think Mario Kart 8 never uses more than 50% of Wii U's RAM? LOL.

Didnt say that. I said PS3 produces waaay more graphically impressive games with half as much RAM, and it did so years ago.

In order to be doable on PS3, a game has to use less than half of Wii U's RAM, not to mention never touch Wii U's superior DX10-11 equivalent GPU features.

So do you think MK8 could be done on PS3 or not? If yes, you're conceding it doesn't come close to using Wii U's full power.

Best looking Wii U game by far and Nintendo did it well. So glad they changed the original coins from the E3 presentation. I was so confused.

Game is going to be ridiculously fun and beautiful to boot.

they need to bring back street racer, that shit was fun.

Well, to be blunt, claiming either is pretty silly, we have no idea how much Ram Mario Kart 8 actually uses, it could use 256Mb for all we know or it could use 1024Mb, just because a console has 512mb, 1024Mb or 8Gb, doesn't actually mean that the game is forced to utilise the entire pool.

On a technical level I wouldn't be surprised if the game could run on a Playstation 3, you would have to make a few concessions in the image quality department though, but from a technical perspective it's actually not that impressive. (Especially from a PC gamers point of view.)

This game will finally justify my launch Wii U purchase.

Same here. This + Smash + Bayo2 + X is all I need (of course I need moar but these games have 2014 covered on the U, PC for the rest). I consider the Wii U to be like a DreamCast and GameCube as far as exclusives game go, fairly niche but totally awesome. 10 years from now after all the dust has settled it will be remberred for that and being brave enought to try out asymetric + motion gaming, even if it wasnt a Wii like success.

I agree nintendo games are good for fun with friends, but every console should be rememebered for the new games and its innovations with new IP's/experiences, not just for the same old IP's with updgraded visuals/gameplay instead of introducing new games/experiences. But, for nintendo consoles its always same for each genration mario, donky kong, zelda and pokemon just with some upgrades to visuals and gameply instead of looking to create New IP's/experiences that can last for that generation.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

WOW. Such ignorance!

Have you even concidered that what people will remember the last gen for is Wii with the all new IP Wii Sports, or maybe Wii Fit? Or, like how we will remember the dual screen gameplay on the most popular gaming oriented device for it's gen, the DS? Oh and don't come and tell me that there ain't new hardcore IP's, cause there is. Xenoblade, TLS, Pandoras tower, Hotel Dusk etc.

Not to mention that the definition of "how a console should be remembered" is entirely yours. If a sequel is super fun to play and really good I don't see why that's  less worthy than a new IP.

Also, Mario and Zelda both provided new "experiences" in the last gen. Motion controlls in Zelda, not to mention a very different layout of the game, and the DS Zelda's had touch based puzzles, something never seen in the series before. Mario, while still keeping it's core, evolved and gave us a very different experience with the galaxy games, and shows that an old IP can be just as good as a new one.

While I agree its important to have new and innovative ideas (like Wii Fit and Wii Sports), the tried and tested formulae are still important. Mario, DK, Zelda and Pokemon always have and still do appeal to generation after generation of kids. The  fact that they might be the umpteenth iteration of the same  game with upgrades doesn't bother them. It's their first experience of those franchises, so they need to look new and fresh. Look at the history of LEGO. (and I don't mean the LEGO videogames) Need I say any more?
