the art and sound design in rayman is way better. And better than any recent mario, and definetely imo (I like 3D world than the rayman games btw).
The character design itself, isn't really better. But it fits witth he level's a lot better. So I give it the edge.
Sonic has the best design in history I think lol, but Rayman is okay in his 2D look, but 3D he looks dumb I think.

Exactly this.
When I was younger I used to think Sonic's design was super cool. Now I actually find him quite boring. Rayman wins
Sonic is even better than Mario in my book, so there you go.
I would tend to go for rayman, the base concept of dropping arms and legs to make it easier to animate was pure genius.
