Forums - Nintendo - Aonuma Suggests Future Zelda Games Could Feature A Top Down View

I remember GTA 3 had a top down view but it was there to respect previous versions. It want mandatory. Same can be applied here. But I fear if they do it in next console zelda game then they might damage zelda brand. Many fans might take away their interest from wii u.

Looks like Top-Down Zelda games arent liked by VGChartz users

It wouldn't fit, really. The closest they got was Twilight Princess, and even that had a stylized flair to it (similar to OoT or MM back in the day, when graphics technology didn't make much difference between Tomb Raider or Resident Evil and Zelda, you could still tell Zelda was going for something different).

Though the detail of that scene does show what could be accomplished with something similar to TP on a machine with twice the RAM and more advanced effects than the machines that produced that screenshot.

I agree for the most part. It would have to keep a distinct style, because the realistic style simply wouldnt suit the franchise.

It doesnt have to be realistic on the level of Uncharted, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us and the like. I think it would benefit greatly as a franchise if Nintendo put a big focus on the visuals this time out though. Drop the cartoony, dare I say somewhat childish artstyles and see what they can really do to push both the system and the franchise to new heights and new players.

After Skyward Sword, lord knows that they need it.

3D zelda on tv.
top-down view on gamepad.

everybody is happy!

That would require weird design compromises, though. Could any of the 3D Zelda games be played top-down as-is?

World design would have to conform to meet both, which could create something of an abomination.

this not to mention it would be a technical nightmare, it sounds good in theory but Ninty isnt going to do it.

Ive always loved the Top-Down Zelda games vs. the 3D ones (never could get into them)

wrong, i think most users dont want a top down on the console. Especially if we just got one on 3ds and still waiting for a 3d one

Dunno why people question EAD3. I'm prepared to sit back and let them make whatever game they want to make. We all know it's going to be outstanding.

please no

Nintendo skimping on dev budget because the game will not sell as much due to low userbase. I said this would happen many months ago.  SSB isn't going to include cutscenes either, skimping again.  I'd accuse Mario Kart of skimping but that series does it anyway with half the tracks being recycled from old games.

now, thats just crazy talk.

nintendo feeds on our nostalgia thats why they include things like retro tracks.

For handheld, go for it! For Console, why aren't you being repositioned yet?
