You had to shamelessly advertise it, thus it's automatically worse!

I'm liking the game so far, but co-op is more miss than hit. It's not co-operative at all, it's splitting up a good working character at double the risk. I have to mine lives in the first world to be able to enjoy playing together, because the load times for getting thrown back to the select screen are awful. Plus the other player is better to opt out when a mine cart level or similar comes up. Bad game design.

My wishlist fora next installment is:
- Get rid of the lives system, it's annoying and pointless.
- In mine cart sections alternate control between players, or make it a splitscreen race.
- Lego type dynamic splitscreen for normal play, or zoom out a bit to keep both players visible.

In single player it's very good.

Please man, I put a lot of work into that review

Nintendo and PC gamer

Nice, definitely getting this once I complete the original trilogy.

From what I've played, it's going like this for me. DKC2 > DKC1 > DKC3

DKC3 is just wayyy too easy. I'm easily blazing through the levels. Does this change at all?

I can definitely feel it. The game has much less "I want to murder someone" feels than DKCR, mostly due to the tweaking of minecart and rocket barrel levels to avert the "oops, you're dead!" factor. Cranky and Dixie make things much more varied, and everything overall feels tighter and more engaging.

The bosses are still pretty meh, unfortunately. I felt Returns had a more fitting final boss, and the only bosses i really enjoyed were the Baboon and the Polar Bear (though that's two more bosses than i can even remember compared to Returns).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Your review  needs more bitching about the difficulty.

OT: Great review, Rol.

I don't know why, but I'm ALWAYS looking forward to these reviews! Now... Time to actually read it!

Yeah, great review, even thou I feel that your score is a bit inflated; a game that gets 9.1 should have nearly near to zero complaints, and yet you voice quite a few... To me, a score of 9 should be a genre defining game (and a 9.5+ should be a industry defining game, a la Mario 64/Ocarina of Time/Super Mario Bros), and I really don't get that feel from the review. I haven't played the game yet though, so it might be just as great as you said it to be.

I'm a whiny baby who wanted Metroid or something else. Secretly though, DKC2 is one of my favourite games of all time and one of only a few I ever bothered to 100%.

I bought DK:TF and finished it. Never played Returns cuz waggle. TF is polished almost beyond anything I've ever seen and it's a really good game. I really would have liked to see another world. One filled completely with new animal buddies as well as the ones from previous games. Also I agree there should have been more variety in the bonus levels. Bash the baddies and find the coin were good additions in the older games. I didn't like the rocket barrel levels because I felt they were too much like an iphone game like Flappy Bird. The mine cart levels I enjoyed though.

Overall it was a little disappointing for me, but credit where credit is due: the level design is incredibly precise, the graphics are lovely and the music, while being one of David Wise's weakest efforts, is still head and tails above what most game composers put out. It was a refreshing challenge too and the fact that I actually wanted MORE content means I enjoyed myself while playing it.

7.9/10 for me. Just shy of greatness.

It's not the amount of complaints, it's their significance. I docked at least one full point from Bravely Default's score for a single issue while everything I didn't like about DKC: TF is very minor stuff. Or speaking from another perspective, how much higher would I have scored the game, if it didn't have the few problems I mentioned? The answer is "not much", hence a score in the 9 range.

And yes, I agree that a 9 should be a genre-defining game and 9.5+ should be reserved for only a few rare games. DKC: TF is a game that stands up there with the best the 2D platformer genre has to offer. If you don't get that feeling from the review, it might be because of the Austrian mentality that bad things get criticized while something that is right is met with silence instead of a compliment. I could go into specifics and write a few more paragraphs about why this or that world is great, but I can't be bothered. My Super Mario 3D World review isn't any different ("Yeah, game is great, here's the score, k thx bye.").

Well, that explains it then :D But like I said, great review; you always seem very grounded when reviewing games - although, I probably wouldn't trust your opinion very much if you ever were to score a 3rd party game ;) Keep up the good work! What's next game in line to get a biased review?
