Yeah, great review, even thou I feel that your score is a bit inflated; a game that gets 9.1 should have nearly near to zero complaints, and yet you voice quite a few... To me, a score of 9 should be a genre defining game (and a 9.5+ should be a industry defining game, a la Mario 64/Ocarina of Time/Super Mario Bros), and I really don't get that feel from the review. I haven't played the game yet though, so it might be just as great as you said it to be.

It's not the amount of complaints, it's their significance. I docked at least one full point from Bravely Default's score for a single issue while everything I didn't like about DKC: TF is very minor stuff. Or speaking from another perspective, how much higher would I have scored the game, if it didn't have the few problems I mentioned? The answer is "not much", hence a score in the 9 range.

And yes, I agree that a 9 should be a genre-defining game and 9.5+ should be reserved for only a few rare games. DKC: TF is a game that stands up there with the best the 2D platformer genre has to offer. If you don't get that feeling from the review, it might be because of the Austrian mentality that bad things get criticized while something that is right is met with silence instead of a compliment. I could go into specifics and write a few more paragraphs about why this or that world is great, but I can't be bothered. My Super Mario 3D World review isn't any different ("Yeah, game is great, here's the score, k thx bye.").

Well, that explains it then :D But like I said, great review; you always seem very grounded when reviewing games - although, I probably wouldn't trust your opinion very much if you ever were to score a 3rd party game ;) Keep up the good work! What's next game in line to get a biased review?
