To be more precise Sony is leasing the top 10 floors of the building for 15 years, they are not buying the building.
Sony currently expects to lay-off around 5,000 employees worldwide before the start of the 2015 fiscal year.
3,500 jobs cut are from outside Japan, though there is no mention if any are from the move out of the old 37 floor Sony Tower.
