Xbox 360 and DirectX 10 would like to have a word with you.
If they really are able to have DirectX 12 on the Xbox One it should be a very big deal. It does seem like they have planned this all along. Sneaky, sneaky.

360 wasn't designed for it was it? I think it came out like more than a year later.
We might be getting back to those DirectXbox days.

Surprisingly No, the Xbox 360 was locked at DirectX 9C. And it was refined and great version of DirectX 9, but still 9. While 9C does have some of the benefits of DX 10, it didn't run DX 10. It wasn't as good.
DirectX 10 had a reputation of being clunky. So they updated to DirectX 11, and have been refining it. DirectX 11 can look really good and run well. Personally I think it's refined tessellation is my favorite strength. So things always look good, from a distance, and smoothly transition when you zoom in, or get close to them. You can add a tremendous amount of detail without killing performance and great draw distances.
Neither the original Xbox nor the Xbox 360 could update their DX version. If Microsoft allows the Xbox One to update it's DirectX's version it will be their first Console to do so.
It will allow some unforeseen as of yet qualities to it’s graphics. And might make DirectX 12 the lead development program, which will also translate into better looking PC games.
Im excited to see what theyre doing with it personally. Even though i dont expect it to come to XBO right away, i hope it goes to XBO sooner rather than later, specially since msft mentioned it being on a console
"It's most likely exclusive to Windows 8.1" I think I am going to stick with DirectX 11 for another while.... * sigh*

Nope. Games are still not taking on DX11 very well, nor any game engines, so it will be years if ever it is taken on board.
They already confirmed XBO is ready for DX12. Happy days.

DX11 hasn't really taken off because most devs just port their games from consoles to PC, making no use of the extra features that DX11 brings over DX9.
With the new gen of consoles, and with the XboxOne supporting it, we'll see how DX9 fades away and DX11/12 become the norm.
Please excuse my bad English.

interested to see some tech demos (hopefully). But I wouldn't expect too much. DX10 and 11 weren't very well utilized.
