Forums - Movies & TV - Gravity Deserved Best Picture at the Oscars!

Tagged games:

Gravity was an amazing movie, I saw it twice and still wanted to see it again but in 3d.

However I think it's a movie that is a LOT better at the cinema than in the living room. That sense of immersion is more difficult to get in your house with the usual distractions. I'm buying the Bluray though.

For those that haven't seen it, try it in the cinema first if it's possible.

12 years a slave isn't a bad movie, I saw it. But there were moments... like when Solomon is just staring in front of him for like a minute. The movie was good, but at the end I was happy it was over and left me thinking.

Gravity I didn't want to end.

I think 12 years a slave just won because racial tension is still a big thing in the US.

Yes, "12 years" won because the Academy has to be as "inclusive" as possible. Because of political correctness in Hollywood, I can no longer take the Oscars seriously and I knew ahead of time that no matter how good any of the other films were, "12 Years" would win without a doubt. I also feel that had it lost, the inevitable "racism" backlash would be heard over and over. If you disagree, I appreciate your opinion but it would not change mine.

I think more importantly Gravity lost because it really wasn't a very good movie. It had stunning visuals, CGI and cinematography (kinda reminded me of prometheus where it relied on being pretty rather than making a good movie), but that is it. Poor story, poorly researched subject matter and cliched. While I also don't think I would call 12 years a slave my winner it was certainly leagues above gravity.

lol I don't see how it would be racism if the movie lost.
That's just sad if people claim that.

I absolutely agree with you on Gravity...I kept wondering to myself before and after the picture, just what was it I was missing that so many other people saw? I was actually bored about half way through and have zero desire to ever see the film again.

Oh, I remember a few years back (maybe more than a few) the uproar about the lack of black actors winning the best actor/actress awards. It couldn't possibly be the fact that the performances weren't up to par, it HAD to be some form of racism....such is the world we live in.

I think Inside Llewyn Davis was far and away the best film of the year. It didn't even get nominated for Best Picture. Gravity was good, but not that great. 12 Years was also overrated. Out of the actual BP nominees I would have given it to Wolf of Wall Street.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Gravity did not deserve best picture by far. It's an amazing tech demo and it deservedly got all the awards for visuals and sound. However nothing for screenplay, acting, or best picture. I'm glad he got an oscar for directing as he was owed that for Children of men.

I bought the blu-ray and enjoyed the spectacle (if you have a home theater, this is the movie to get), but the story was crap and the sequence of events impossible. The behind the scenes footage explaining all the tech used to create the visuals and sound was more interesting than the movie itself. Those 3 hours went by a lot faster than the 90 minute movie. This sums up the plot perfectly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeKMS62GrTI

Im just surprised that frozen won something, not a very good movie, but oh well the competition was not too great I believe.

Wolf of the Wall Street deserved the win in my opinion and so did LEO dammit!

The competition was The wind rises!
Problem nobody has seen it yet, came out the 28th and only available in a few theaters.

Agree. Nothing like Gravity has been done before. Totally deserved the best picture.

Fuck 12 years of boredom, it was done decades ago, its called Roots and its much better.

Roots is not better then 12 Years A Slave.  Roots is highly fictionalized while 12 Years is based on a real story that really happened.  As a matter of fact its been proven that Alex Haley plagiarised other novels about slavery when he wrote Roots.

12 Years a Slave actually has a metascore that is one point higher then Gravity 97/100 so the best movie actually won the right award.
