Forums - Gaming Discussion - C4 Engine Exclusive To PS4 Due To PR Missteps For Xbox One

There's this growing, competitive trend happening in the gaming industry at the moment that surrounds the release of games and software titles on the PS4 and Xbox One. Or rather, a lack of titles being released on one platform over the other.

Since launch, the PlayStation 4 has been expanding its digital library rapidly. While boxed retail games are for the expensive AAA publishers, the digital space is reserved for no one in particular, and smaller indie devs are taking advantage of this by carousing in the PR circle-jerk of awesomeness for the PlayStation 4. There are a bunch of indie games that have released on the PS4 since launch, and tons more are on the way.

Joining in on all the other non-AAA titles available on the PlayStation 4 – and those scheduled to arrive for the PlayStation 4 – are C4 Engine titles.

Interestingly enough, games made with the C4 Engine will only be available on the PlayStation 4, due to poor dealings with Microsoft's bureaucratic infrastructure, so says the developers.

Speaking with Gamingbolt, founder, CEO and president of Terathon Software, Eric Lengyel, the PS4 became the clear choice after poor dealings with Microsoft, saying...

“Sony made a lot of good decisions when it comes to the technical design of the PS4. It’s awesome to have a fast, featured-packed GPU that can access a huge amount of fast memory. The Xbox One isn’t a whole lot different, but the slower memory and the irritation of still having something like eSRAM are disappointing.

“C4 is currently exclusive to the PS4 for the sole reason that Sony was much more cooperative than Microsoft when we were first exploring conversion to next-gen consoles. Sony treated us with respect and made sure that we had everything we needed to get C4 running on the PS4. Microsoft did not respond to us in any way that included the slightest bit of professionalism, and that’s just one more thing to throw onto the pile of PR missteps surrounding the Xbox One.”

This mirrors the recent revelation by White Paper Games that Ether One is also only coming to the PlayStation 4 due to a lack of communication from Microsoft. Routine is another game that may be heading to the PS4, but not the Xbox One.

Previously, we wrote about a smorgasbord of other indie titles all scheduled to release for the PS4 this year, including games like Minecraft and Starbound, amongst others.

Microsoft did manage to retaliate by recently announcing they had 70 new developers join their ID@Xbox program. Whether or not having 200 developers registered with no actual games dated or scheduled for release, shows a lack of prescience as far as indie support goes.

As for games made with the C4 Engine, we can expect to see them on the PS4 but not the Xbox One. If you're curious what kind of games are capable on the C4 Engine, you can re-watch the video embedded above or visit the official website for more information.

yeah, kind of  a brutal quote.   priorities i guess.  no one can do everything.

I came thinking Cryengine 4. I got trolled. Ha ha ha.

That happened with a lot of devs this gen... Diable III is not being made to Xbone yet because Blizzard didn't received devkits in time... so they will port late... most of indies games won't have a Xbone's version or it will receive a port later.

We already know that.

Wow that guy didnt hold back any punches with that statement.

Not sure what MS was thinking when they dealt with these guys...

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

Holy shit! What is the problem with ID@Xbox?

I thought ID@Xbox program was made to improve the relatioship between MS and indies but they are still complaining.

i can see the confusion but ryse being on xbone already should have been a clue...  :P

This reminds me a little bit of Jerry Macguire. When Cruise is trying to call his clients, they were already closing deals with Jay Mohr. MS was spending too much time on the phone offering money to EA/Respawn and missed some great opportunities.

Probably something like, "What the fuck is a C4 Engine?"
