Forums - Nintendo - Fact is, who bought a Nintendo console, primary want to play games from nintendo!! True story party people

My Wii U is for Bayonetta 2. Not sure what category that follows under.

True, I only bought mine for Zelda. The rest were bonuses.

I need to stop buying games...

I usually buy Nintendo consoles for third party. I'll purchase Nintendo games, but they're rarely the main attraction for me. I own 62 DS games, five of those are first party developed. I've owned more first party games for the DS, but have sold them after completion because I know I'd never play them again.

The Wii U is the first Nintendo console where the main attraction is Nintendo games.  Smash Bros and X.  There's almost nothing I'm interested in that's third party.

Yes, and that's very unfortunate! Nintendo needs the 3rd parties to stay relevant, a fact some Nintendo fans don't want to acknowledge.

Do they? Nintendo was relevant in the N64 and Gamecube days. Has the industry changed that much? It seems to me that the industry is even more big developer dependent, which will skew things in favor of large first party developers.

I wouldnt make the argument that Nintendo were relevant with the GC, and the only reason why they were relevant with N64 was because they did 3D gaming right (with the analogstick) and doing console fps' right. Thats the main reasons anyways. They did nothing with the GC imo. Nintendo will become a niche company with niche products if they keep this going. And just remember; Wii ks the ONLY console to win a gen (or even going good) without major 3rd party support.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Yes, but you know as well as I do that a WiiU sans gamepad could be retailing for $200 right now.

no, 250 maybe. 200 would be a money hemorrage.

The PS3 is currently $199 and not sold at a loss.  PS3 is older and has been in production much longer than WiiU, but it's also a blu-ray player, and WiiU is not vastly superior/more expensive tech.

It may only break even at $199, but a WiiU packaged with a Wiimote/nunchuck instead of the Gamepad would absolutely not hemorrhage money.

It's impossible to have new console with $199 launch price.

NES, SNES, N64, GCN and more

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Launch_price

Adjusted for inflation:

NES = $434

SNES = $343

N64 = $298

GameCube = $264

$200 was a lot of money in 1985.

Meanwhile, average PC prices are falling year over year. The consoles are losing their historical price advantages.

You are what's wrong with this world.

As Reggie would say, "What's wrong with you?"

Yes, but this has been true for decades.

Nintendo do unique Games, like Sony 1st party. They are precious. I'm sad Nintendo is not in a strong position now, but also they should focus more on performance, like it was with GameCube; ok, also GameCube didn't sell that much, and maybe those mini DVD as its media format was not a very very clever move, but the games...damn, what a quality !!! GameCube had some of the best games ever released on any system, I loved it !  I hope Nintendo will go back to that kind of approach, a powerful console, of course their umique games, and also some new IP, new ideas, and the balls to develop a Monster Game like "Mario adventure", a brand new 3D action platform game with marvelous graphics and their unique touches. Please Nintendo, think about it for the Next Gen :)
