Layoffs always suck, but seriously who the hell needs a Sony store? Why do certain electronic companies need personal stores anyway?

I always thought the same..arrogance is the only answer I can come up with.

It isn't arrogance. They are actually hugely beneficial to brand recognition and allows companies like Sony or Microsoft or Apple to show their products in the best possible light, something most electronic stores really don't give a damn about as what most stores want is to push the products that give them the best return or commission. These stores aren't usually there to make a large income or compete directly with electronics stores, consider it a relatively cheap form of advertising.

But the PS4 is on fire and will save the company. Yoohooo!!

I would love it if you could show me one instance were someone seriously said that the PS4 is going to safe Sony.

IGN. And i swear it for my son.

Well, you can't spell ignorant without IGN :D

lol, that´s true.

Sony stores become less practical as they move out of the tv and laptop business, or generally speaking towards digital service and specialty hw(cameras) rather than consumer electronics. Phones can are best sold at service provider stores.

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

I literally had no idea that they had retail stores! O_o ......and I live in California.

Advertising.. a lot of companies use these stores as advertising.. in the last 10 years "shopping" has dramaticly shifted.. they know they can't compete with online, thats why you see more and more brand stores... these stores are for people to "experience" the brand.. and hopefully buy them online later..  I oversaw the development of these kinda stores creating an "experience".

Looks like those stores don't work. But seriously, if you don't want a product, then you would want to experience it.

A lot of them do work.. this is just Sony trying to save money with their bad financials.. A lot of people still want to feel and touch a device before they are gonna buy.. to see the screen quality of a TV, listen to the sound quality.. for Sony it doesn't matter if they then buy it from Best Buy or Amazon after that..
I'm pretty sure if Sony had the money in the future they would open stores again.. (if they still have an electronics division)

But you don't go to one brand's store for that - you go where you have a wider choice to compare different brands.

Exactly. A Sony store just doesn't make sense. I can go to my local bestbuy and "experience" any device I want. Sonys just not big enough or popular enough, like apple is, to have a dedicated store like this. Like you said, I'd rather go to a store and compare all of them, rather than just look at Sonys stuff.

Logical step. Now with TV and laptops gone they don't have enough products to fill those stores anymore.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I didn't even know the Sony store was a thing.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I bought my original fat PS3 at a Sony store because they had a deal for Sony credit card holders

I remember the clearance sale for the Sony store in the closing of the Topanga mall in Los Angeles in 2011 or 2012. They had super cheap PlayStation TVs and the matching 3D glasses were only $5 each.
