Forums - Sony - Sony Closing 20 Retail Stores, Laying Off 1,000 Workers

Nintendo doomed confirmed.

Seriously though, although layoffs are a bad thing for those involved, there is no need for Sony stores, other than something similar to the Nintendo world store. Meaning not a chain, but only one in each of the largest cities.

Layoffs always suck, but seriously who the hell needs a Sony store? Why do certain electronic companies need personal stores anyway?

It's the cool thing to do now a days. Unfortunately, they're kind of pointless because you could always find their inventory at almost any basic electronics store. Companies are probably trying to avoid using other retailers as a middle man but it doesn't always work out, just like in this case, and it's a shame people lost their jobs in the process.

Those Sony stores are over priced, they never have deals! I can pick up a cheaper Sony TV next door to the Sony store lol

Not true! They had Vita's on sale when I visited. :P

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I always thought the same..arrogance is the only answer I can come up with.

Advertising.. a lot of companies use these stores as advertising.. in the last 10 years "shopping" has dramaticly shifted.. they know they can't compete with online, thats why you see more and more brand stores... these stores are for people to "experience" the brand.. and hopefully buy them online later..  I oversaw the development of these kinda stores creating an "experience".

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

While I'm all for closing these stores, cause seriously stores like these never have good deals and always found pointless, it does come with me hating it.

1. 1000 people got laid off. regardless how stupid I think these stores are and din' tthink they should have been made in first place its still 1000 people who lost their job.

2. gonna pad the sony financials. Be nice to have a year where sony hasn't sold buildings, headquarters shut down divisions, ect. and actually get a good raeding on how sony is actually doing. These random misc things make it tough to look at the company.

Looks like those stores don't work. But seriously, if you don't want a product, then you would want to experience it.

These stores were a joke anyways, just like Apple stores.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Sucks, but you don't turn a company around without big changes.

I was not aware they had stores to begin with...
