Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Boom $20m budget

Train wreck said:
hopefully this silences people who feel that out of control budgets are only reserved for the PS360 new variants. 20 million for a Sonic game is quite expensive (to a new studio no less) and there is no way Sega (or Nintendo since they paid for the exclusive rights) will get their money back (initial investment and any ROI), Bayonetta 2 will be the next in line.

You're better when you at least try to back your negativity.

Seems like a bad move putting so much money into a dead franchise.

Sonic's been low-tier, but consistent. Certainly more reliable than anything else Sega has in its stable.

They're not doing themselves any favors by releasing these Sonic games that review 60-70's in the Metacritic. It's hard to remember the last time we got a good Sonic game.

Wasn't Uncharted 2's budget close to that?

Uncharted costed about 20 million as well if I"m not mistaken. Given that this game gives me the feelings of the first Sonic Adventure and is being worked on by Big Red Button(Composed of ND vets whom are into whimsical art styles) gives me really high expectations. When is this game due out?

Assuming that the TV show is a moderate hit among children, id say this game will sell reasonably well.

It's been far too long since there was a great Sonic game... I'd consider Generations and Colors to be decent Sonic games... Certainly titles that gave me hope for better games to build off of then... then it kind of went backwards again after that. Sonic Boom certainly looks interesting to me... I have some hope for it putting Sonic back on track, but I've been disappointed many times before... But the development team seems so promising.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

All that cash for leg stretching money.

*vomits*

I watched the little "behind the scenes" video they posted recently, and I have to say, I am becoming more interested in Sonic Boom (the game on Wii U) than I've ever been interested in a Sonic game before. And I bought Sonic Lost World, so for me, being this excited about a Sonic game is a new feeling :O

I hope it turns out good, and with its decently sized $20 million budget, I'll put some faith in Big Red Button's employee pedigree (but lack of proven history as a developer) and buy the game Day One!

Edit: Bah, the shocked smiley isn't working right
