Japanese launch of the succesful PlayStation4 console has been shadowed by the Wii U and Vita numbers. Yes. After two days the PS4 managed to sell 322,000 units according to the tracker Famitsu.

But, aren't those numbers good? No, it isn't good. Expectations of the console has been raised to the point of being the savior of the homeconsole market in a mobile country where even the 3DS is starting to fad away. Those 322,000 units for a hyped launch are too similar to its brother, PSVita (321,000) and its counterpart from Nintendo, the Wii U (306,000).

There's no need to point how bad are the performace of both consoles when even games like Super Mario 3D World and Soul Sacrifice cannot stop both devices from an inminent crash.

It's even worse when you take in count the succesful mainstream Wii and the PS2. Both of them, which will be outsold by the PS4 according to experts and dreams, managed to get more sales. Wii with 371,000 units and PS2 with a smashing 990,000 figure. But, why should it need to outsell the Wii? It is if  you expect it to outsell the PS2, and even more considering it has been celebrated to death how this new console is surpassing worlwide week after week the succesful Nintendo conosle, Wii.

There's only one more thing to say. Way an uphill to reach the PS2 numbers.

1) the Japanese PS4 supply is almost sold out it seems, so it can only sell as many units that are available.

2) Your making statements in its first week, that's not a clever thing to do.

3) Your making statements about the PS4 which has defied popular thinking everywhere, in every department.  Trying to play down the impact it might make is foolish.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

PS4 will take Japan eventually just look at the coming "exclusives" (Xbone doesn't count in Japan) like KH3, FF15 and superior multiplats like FF14 and Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain (bundled by the way).

Capcom is already doing exclusives for Sony, next RE and DMC games. Its over Japan will be Sony territory too.

Sold more than I thought it would, I was thinking first week Japan would be 250k.

With only 350k being shipped in Japan, did you somehow expect it to sell more than that?

Note: Media Create insiders also confirmed that Sony shipped 350,000 PS4 units at launch in Japan, so the company sold almost all that it could manufacture, pointing towards a stronger Japanese market than many had expected.

Thank you; this is the bit of information I wanted, yet was too lazy to look up myself.

322k sold on an initial shipment of 350k, with further reports confirming initial stock was subsequently sold out and that the Japan market is awaiting follow up shipments, points to a successful launch, directly in line with SCE projections.

No more inventory was diverted than necessary from other global regions where stock remains persistently short.

I hate to sound like a cheerleader, but I do have to hand it to SCE for the way they handled the PS4 launch globally.

Problem. Nintendo sold out its first launch.  The reason for it being low is because general demand is low.

Some Ps4 fans seem to think Ps4 is going to destroy all trends every home console had last gen and grow.

I'm starting to think it's not because they actually believe it will happen but they want it to happen.

Ps4 going to hit 90,000 my prediction than there will be excuses. Demand or under stock even though nothing to prove it.

than it will hit 40,000 same excuse.  Going into March.

Than 20,000 (lol it's doing better than wiiu at least) second week of March.

than 14,000 same as last week and continue excuses.

8,000 it will come back when final fanasty 14.

7,000 e3 2014 ff14 released 2015. It will recover whenever it comes out!

Talk about a pessimistic post lol not every console is destined to follow the same trend. You do know that right? I don't expect the PS4 to reignite Japan's interest in console gaming but I think it will be considered a highly successful console at the end of it (especially considering that it has become the market leader).

It would have sold at least 600k in the first two days  if it would have been bundled with a Kuroko's Basketball video game.

It's impressive considering that there are no games out that appeal to the Japanese audience.

PS4 is doing just fine in Japan.

Expectations were just too high.

The PS4 will outsell the WiiU....but it won´t surpass the PS3 imo.

Things have changed....for the worse over there.... :/
