I doubt that "relaunch" will help at all.

I wonder how many times you have changed the strategy Nintendo should use with the Wii U..

Near Field Communitacion. Something like Skylanders or Disney Infinty.

OT: I think the OP would be more comfortable if Nintendo just sell their IPs, and leave the business.

Nintendo has been releasing high quality software for 30 years now. High quality first party games are obviously not the only thing required for a system to have success. Sega for that matter also released tremendously high quality games for the Sega Master System, Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast too.

A bombardment of Mario, Zelda, Kirby & friends is what's put them between a rock and a hard place.

That's the most correct sentence I've read today. 20 years ago a new Mario would be awesome, even 15 years ago. Mario saturation started just a little bit on the GC which was okay, and then Wii and DS and Wii U and 3DS came along with oversaturated franchises.

Now the word Mario seems "meh" to most consumers out there. Nintendo has done exactly what they set out to fight when they launched the NES, oversaturation.

Edit. Even though the games in the oversaturated franchises are generally of extremely high quality, I guess a new IP from Nintendo (which is not a four dollar downloadable Animal Crossing / Cooking Mama style game) might do wonders.

Yep.

I'm curious, when did we start talking about the past 30 years? nintendo hasn't released enough high quality software for wii u yet. and I didn't say it was supposed to be first party only.

Toy machine for kids with Zombie U, Bayonetta 2 and X? I dont think so.

To target the kids market, this is not the type of hardware you should use.

Or maybe the "1st/2nd party studios trying to carry a system on their own" formula simply doesn't work very well.

The N64, GameCube, Dreamcast, Saturn, Sega Master System, Wii, and Wii U have tried this formula, and the Wii is the only one that's really been tremendously successful and that was largely due to a controller gimmick that hit the jackpot which can't be repeated.

People by and large don't want to buy a system just for a handful of good games per year.

Aren't most of the kids on Playstation or Xbox anyway?

Anyway i think you're proposals are just awful, I would rather Nintendo just drag the Wii U along if possible.
Skylanders will die out like Guitar Hero soon enough so I don't think basing a console on that will do too well.

Nintendo Wii U should just try to sell itself as the must have secondary console. It does that by offering many unique experiences in games.

Also I wish people would stop acting like Wii U is too expensive, it's not that expensive.
