I'm not normally one to defend police brutality, but...

The movie rules aren't the one cops actually use. If the cop thinks a suspect is about to use lethal force (that includes a drawn gun or even charging with a knife), they are expected to use lethal force to stop the suspect. Cops aren't even supposed to draw their weapon unless they are planning to shoot somebody dead.

The error in judgement was that the cop mistook a toy for a lethal weapon. Her response was correct to how she was trained.

Are you advocating that criminals should be let go if they show a sufficient level of remorse?

if you are talking about 3rd country big cities where guns and such are supossed to be illegal and theres a lot of crime...well, theres a whole lot of factors involved
