That's so sad but what kind of kid would try to threaten a police officer? The officer probably thought it was a weapon.

Maybe if you live in the "ghetto" you would be afraid of things like this, but in most "normal" communities in the US people aren't afraid of getting shot or even seeing a gun.
Typical that this would be turned into a problem with the US and not with this isolated incident, though.
A good guy with a gun could have prevent this, had the kid had a real gun he could have block the bullet with his own bullet

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It would not be unreasonable to claim that she is not fit for duty, but further punishing her would serve no purpose. |
I do feel sorry for her aswell, but it seems that something needs to change. If this happened in my country it would be front page news.
| snowdog said: For those saying that the officer should have shot him in the arm or leg the police in every country are trained to shoot in the middle of the chest for two reasons: 1) It's the largest area of the human body so easier to hit 2) The chances of a fatal shot are higher. If the police didn't do this you'd have A LOT more officers killed on duty. Of course tragedies are going to happen every now and then but I feel a great deal safer knowing the police don't fuck about. |
Cops are doing a paid job, the kid was at his home, see the difference?. I rather see a dead cop doing his honourable job than a kid killed "accidentally" in his home.
A dead cop is a tragedy. A dead kid because a incompetent cop is a crime.

Hardly a regular basis. This sort of thing doesn't happen that often.
| cycycychris said: This could have all been avoided if they identified them-self upon kid asking. I'm pretty sure they are suppose to any ways. Upon knocking typically they yell "this *police department* open up". Upon that identification kid would probably never had the Wiimote and be scared to death. Also, I'd ask for the officer to be held accountable for her action but that never happens. She'll probably get fired but that's the most that'll happen. |
exactly, the bitch should be arrested but probably won't.

I do find it weird that the cop didn't identify herself, but if some cases if they do that will give the criminals a chance to escape or get a weapon if they're crazy. Though in this case if a kid is asking I would deem it to be harmless to reply.
