Cheers dude! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Like you, I already own a PS4 and I'm going to buy a Wii U some time this year. There are (or will be) just too many great titles from Nintendo that will make the purchase worth it.

Anyway, I have two questions for you guys:

1. The Wii U Gamepad just seems to bulky and heavy for me to be playing like 4-5 hours with it, so the question is: Is the use of the gamepad in every game mandatory or can you ALWAYS choose to play with the traditional controller (the Pro Controller?) ?
2. Is it very likely that the Wii U will get a price cut this year? If yes, when does Nintendo traditionally do pricecuts?

That's actually an improved battery life over launch stock I think. I've never had more than 3 hours out of my pad :(

Thankfully yes you can play while it's plugged in and charging, that was a god send for my brief addiction to Lego City Undercover (only brief because I loved it so much I  completed the entire thing in 3 sittings... well except 100%ing collectables, there are just too damn many of them that it makes a Rare game look like it's sparse).

I keep hearing great things about Wii Party U. I definitely think it's something I'm going to have to consider. I really should finish Sonic Lost World and Mario 3D World and Pikmin and... before I buy any new Wii U games haha.

I'd say 90% of software can be used with something other than the Wii U pad (be it a Wii Remote or Pro Controller).

I'm pretty certain Wii U will be getting a price cut this year if only because I think XB1 is going to receive a significant price drop by the summer and Nintendo will probably have to adjust accordingly. £199 Pro Sku with Mario Kart wouldn't surprise me by the year's end, and I think sales will skyrocket as a result.

Wii U is a pretty underlooked console to be honest and yet i love it. The games are just there now with many coming this year. You can't say that much about PS4 or Xbox One yet. Even though they will do far better.

Personally i got one for the same reason i get any Nintendo console, for their games. Mainly Super Mario 3D World above all and that alone was worth the purchase.

Also i was surprised at how good the gamepad is. They done really well at making it comfortable to use. But you should be able to use the console with the pro controller or wii mote if you want. Gamepad's battery drains to quick! Maybe that will be in an update.

Between all the games coming this year and the Wii backwards compatibility, you can't go wrong. I just wish they would sort out their virtual console already.

But what a great time to get one. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is out Friday!

I didn´t find the Gamepad to be heavy, on the contrary, or its size it´s kind of light. Lighter than I would expect. Anyway, it´s justa matter of personal perceptionl

I don´t understand why people expected the Gamepad to work away from the console. Of course you must be in the same room of the console for it to work, just like any regular controller without cable. It´s not a handheld, it´s a controller so why should it be different?

The battery life sure is an issue. 4-5 hours is too short. Thankfully there´s a battery already available with better life (6-8 hours). On the other side, the Pro Controller battery last around 70 hours.

Now, about the power bricks, I do think they´re pretty, like, unconfortable to deal with. The main one is too large.


PS4 + WiiU = perfect home console combo. For sure.

Firstly; glad to hear you're enjoying it! I do think it's one of those systems that you need to play before you make a judgement on it.

Secondly; the sensor bar is only necessary for BC with the Wii and games that use the Wiimote pointer (eg Pikmin 3 and the Zelda and Metroid games in Nintendo Land), so if you're not planning on playing those games or using the Wii mode, then you can save time by not taking the sensor bar with you when you change locale.

Thirdly; the distance you can use the gamepad might be down to the location of your router. I've not played around with mine so I can't be certain, but if you're having real problems it may be worth looking into.

And finally; if you've not already, make sure to check out the eShop and see what demos are available for you to play around with. Zombi U and Wonderful 101 are 2 that you should definitely try as you can't play them anywhere else and both offer unique takes on their genres.

I think your OP was pretty honest and right on the money. You posted from your head and not from your heart and for that, you have my respect.

You're a smart guy. Beware of these posters. They mean well but sometimes they can disappoint you:

-the "buy this" poster. Immediately after learning you bought a console, he tells you to buy $500 worth of games. Mediocre games, at that.
-the "over-hype" poster. He's enthusiastic but he leads to disappointment. The Pro Controller is great. Leave it at that. It doesn't have to be the best controller ever because even if it was, it's only gonna be used for certain Wii U games. I never use mine. Only charged it once since launch and it still has a charge!
