Pointless. PS2 probably had a larger casual audience than Wii and Kinect.

You are the kind of mudlehead that makes me ashamed that i call myself a gamer. Instead of acnowledging that "Wii" brought in normal, every day people to video games and applauding the effort. Sperglords like you feel superior taking digs at anyone who doesn't treat video games as a secondary full time job.
Keep at it.

In his defense all those new people didn't improve gaming one bit. In contrary, it made Nintendo over confident and left us with a Wii U. And now those people are gone. If they don't care about gaming, why should we care about them?
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
Seriously?
Not even quoting any demographic research or anything... you just made up a number...
for the love of god... if I didn't know you better i'd think you were pulling a rol.

This is absolute nonsense with no basis. I can easily break the entire argument by simply asking the question, "What do we consider the gamers that bought a Wii and a PS3 and/or 360?" Simply asking the question of multiple system owners or multiple purchases of the same system (I have bought 3 360s, 2 Ps3's, and a Wii.. am I counted 5 more times) ruins the argument. Install bases are not black and white and this is why this post is asinine. If they were so easy to figure out, analysts with much more experience than forum posters would have it figured out a long time ago.

Just because you like Sony and don't like casuals, does not mean that they never bought Sony consoles.

Gran Turismo and GTA are pretty popular among casuals (and those are the best-selling games of the console). Although I still think the casual market of wii was larger than PS2's.

Haha he better start liking the "casuals" if he really thinks the PS4 will sell 100 million. Won't be able to do it without them haha.
Im struggling to argue against that. As are other people in the thread, as you can see by them laughing it off, insulting you or deflecting it.
Obviously the Wii non-gamer figures are pulled from your arse, but I can see you being rather close. Id estimate the core Nintendo fanbase at somewhere between 20-30 Million gamers. These are the people who will go out and buy a Nintendo console no matter what.
That said, Id also estimate the number of gamers who jumped on the Wii hype for motion controls, Wii Fit and party games would be in the 60-70 Million range. This could range from preschoolers to grandmas and grandpas. Mums who arent interested in videogames. "Red Ocean" gamers who picked one up so drunkenly play Wii Sports with friends.
Never forget these surveys done by Nintendo -

Nintendo lost a fuckton of people Gen over Gen at the same time as they went for the PS360 market with CoD, AC, Batman and so on. To deny that a gigantic portion of the Wii userbase was expanded market gamers is borderline idiotic and anyone on a sales website should know this.
That said, yes. The PS2 did have a large casual userbase, though at the same time it also had pretty much the entire "Red Ocean" market. It had the best of both Worlds, wheras the Wii had the best of the Blue Ocean and a minority in the Red Ocean.
