The reason I think the Vita could only close the gap by going micro console is that in the handheld space there is less cross ownership.i.e consumers owning both 3DS and PSVitas are in the minority. Dedicated handheld gaming devices are basically secondary handhelds and owning a 3DS is reason enough to not get a VITA. Its was like this to a lesser degree in PSP's time, but now smartphones/tablets are much stronger.
