Forums - Sony Discussion - Could The Vita Ever Catch The 3DS?

The Vita has a power advantage that could actually position it to a point where any Nintendo successor to the 3DS, means the Vita is still capable of running that software (so "HDS"/Vita dual format releases could potentially end up being much more common place than 3DS/Vita ones are now). The Vita is also starting to attract Japanese developers who I'm guessing are wanting this extra power to be less constrained by hardware limitations which could help drive sales.

I don't see Vita ever catching 3DS, but I do think it could have a much longer lifespan meaning in the long run, it doesn't look like the utter decimation that 2013 sales comparisons showed.

As for Vita peaking, it may well have done in the West unless Sony do something about it. It looks like it's just starting to wake up in Japan though.

PSP can probably run most 3DS games, it isn't doing what you think it would.

Yes. by 2020.

Correct. By that point each system's weekly sales will be completely equal.

PSP doesn't sell any software due to the ridiculously high piracy rate. It may have had 80m units sold, but about 50m of the userbase pirated the hell out of the games. It was pretty much abandoned in the West years before the 3DS launched. PSP has been getting PSP/Vita dual format releases for the past 2 years though in Japan.

Okay, assuming Vita isn't completely hacked by the time the Nintendo successor releases it would be potentially possible for it to share Nintendo HDS titles as cross format :p

Real question: Could it catch the Game Gear?

Won't it pass the Gamegear this year?

Hopefully PSV will do better than now, but most probably it won't ever catch 3DS. Doing better is possible and not unlikely, but to catch 3DS, it should do A LOT better and at the same time 3DS do A LOT worse, so we are talking about TWO unlikely things that should both happen, the result is VERY unlikely. Basic probability theory.

A snowball's chance in Hell, I say.

This must be a joke, though...

If Vita ever catches 3DS, I will permaban my account, destroy all my consoles, and join a recreational sport.

Even if from today forward a vita was bundled with every 3ds(and 2ds) I don't think it could happen
