Forums - Sales - Do you still think WiiU can outsell Gamecube? (US: Second January, GC: 81k Vs WiiU: 49k)

I believe Gamecube already had some of its big hitters out by 2003, Wii U has....Mario....a "bleh" version of Mario that isnt wowing anyone to buy a Wii U. We'll see what kind of momentum Mario Kart, Smash and others do to the sales. This world is different now that games like Mario Kart have gotten much bigger than previous iterations. I think the console still has a chance at matching Gamecube numbers, we'll see, hard to predict without sounding like a hater or a fanboy....

With the current trends a strong no.

but I know there are some things that can go in favor of the wii u improving. Wii owners slowly upgrading. From N64 to the cube the was no backwards compatibility. Of games and now the wii u can use wii motes.

I see the wii u being more likely to be the secondary console of ps4 and xbox one owners.

So if there are enough games out there for people to upgrade or get the second console and a price people are willing to pay for it in the not too distant future, it could then happen.

Yep sorry I was wrong you were right gergroy. NPD still not tracking everything is my firdt point and to use those numbers are wrong. When they have fine print on bottom that tells me something about their services. They will pick and choose what to report.

GC could have sold more than 21M, same for Wii U, it will surely do much less in the same time but could do much more if they keep it alive longer than GC

Really? How? It was cut to $99 pretty quickly. That's pretty much the biggest thing they could do ....

Since when did Nintendo (this last decade or so) support systems for more than 5 years? And WiiU isn't doing well as it is ... if it's doing 49k this January, what is it going to be doing in 2 januarys from now???

It's unrelistic to expect WiiU to be selling in 2017.

I can say the same with the PS4 and Xbox One with that logic.

No you can't. Gamecube got killed early, Xbox did because of reasons (Nvidia dispute ect), PS2 kept going. Wii died the fastest, PS360 are still going. Nintendo just don't sell systems for a long time these days.

I mean, PS360 had 8 year+ lifespans selling 5m+, you really expect PS4 and XB1 to only have 4 succesful year?

My point is that you can't say for sure what will happen in a substantial amount of time. Nintendo could go hardcore support this generation and Sony does not because they are in financial trouble.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

outsell N64? hahahahaha!!!!

Will the WII U even outsell the VITA ?

i can see it happening but if it does it wont stay on top lifetime. Japan is the only thing keeping Vita look decent in WW sales, Europe Is doing Ok, but US numbers are a disaster. Of course WiiU aint in no good shape either. Its going to have terrible sales in March-May...... Again

Seriously though I can NOT think of ONE god damned region the WII U is going to do half decent in ...

Sony has taken over the EU and NA. Microsoft will get some scraps from UK/NA. Once PS4 launches in Japan it will demolish any momentum the WII U had there.

Do u not even realize u completely changed ur argument? U went from Wii U vs Vita to Wii U vs X1/PS4

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The only way the Wii U can outsell the GC at this point is if Nintendo does some sort of "relaunch" with the console similar to the way they did with the DS Lite. Drop the expensive tablet controller, sell the thing for like $199, and devote more resources to internal development teams and bring in more talent that have experience with "HD" games and that can create some new IPs.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Regardless, this thread is just another in the millions of various NIntendoom threads posted every month around here. SOS.

what are you overly sensetive ?

its in no way a doom thread, get over it.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this. I don't own any of the next gen consoles. I'd love to get a WiiU but I can assure you it won't be my first next gen purchase. This entire thread is a good read mostly of people giving their opinion of the state of the WiiU at this moment in contrast to the Gamecube. There was very little to no troll comments or flame bait comments. If you read it that way, like (I think BeElite?) said, you are overly sensetive. Build a bridge and then take his last 3 words and do that.

I like how people say the game pad is worthless, Oh excuse me 18-24 year olds. Its actually a great controller and is very comfortable In your hands. Game pad is just another innovative thing to come out of Nintendo. Example Wii Party U has a mini game that is Awesome. Its called Water Runners the innovation on it is top notch. Also having 2 kids makes the game pad flourish as well, i can watch say baseball and of my daughter wants to play 3D world she can while I watch My A's play. Like I said young immature adults who live at home with mommy dont understand because they dont have worry anythin about and their mommy takes care of them so they bitch about everything Nintendo does

^Sigh man....that's just embarrassing

OT. When the gen started I thought Wii U has the potential to sell around N64 to 40 million units. Now I think, if everything goes well to Nintendo, they have a chance to go pull somewhere between GCN and N64 numbers, 25-27 million maybe. But the most probable scenario imo, is Wii U not reaching 20 million units, so not outselling GCN, I just don't see anything compelling and sales worthy in Wii U, not much going for it.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!
