3. Since MS shipped 3.9mio units (of which 3mio sold through and 600-700k sold into retail), Sony sold through 4.2mio units and shipped/sold about 600-800k units by end of year. Higher numbers would really surprise me.


Well, I have to agree with most of what have explained. But how this would explain the PS4 shortages at late december early janurary?

If we follow VGChartz numbers PS4 sales have drop 70% from pre-Xmass week.

Did Sony streached too thin the supply in smaller markets?

titanfall won't have remotely close to the impact you think it will, it won't be outselling ps4 in march put it that way.

I know and that will totally affect my enjoyment of the game! Imagine when it's getting 8's or 9's in reviews, those could be 14's or 15's if the Xbone were outselling PS4. You dun goofed MS, you dun goofed.

That is easy to explain. Even when you are flying in stuff, it probably takes a week or two turnaround time. So for XMas you fly in units manufactured during early December. These early December units are now NOT on ships that would otherwise arrive early January. December NPD shows that Sony planned the distribution really well (or were very lucky in the end), since December was pretty much a stalemate in NA.

I agree... in parts.

Sony really did a great job trying to supply US with the best way they could... the problem was they wanted to win December but lost by about 40k units... they really tried.

Everything else I agree... the units that is reaching the stores right now (or the last week) was manufactured in late December.

he has 2.92m. And not just ioi but NPD and GFK. MS estimated sales. (even stated in their press release it was estimated) and they over estinated. It really is simple as that


I'm looking at the press release right now and it explicitely states they sold over 3 million to consumers.  The word estimated isn't even in the press release, not even in tiny letters at the bottom...

Could you post a link to where Microsoft confirmed they had ~!m on store shelves and that the 3 million number sold to consumers in 2013 press release was incorrect?

I think Pete Dodd is full of shit if he's claiming to have seen NPD's numbers for January (unless he works for NPD). 

*Edit: Looking at the article linked to in the OP it seems like he didn't claim that and it's just a amateurish article from a shit website (no credible news website would just make up things out of their ass).

It was not incorrect but a rounded number... Sony sold less than 4.2m too... they rounded to the near number and near milestone.

Mort doesn't have access to NPD but he know guys that had... GAF had some guys with access to NPD, one eve works to the company if I'm not wrong.

And NPD track sales every week/day... just because the public release happens monthly don't mean they don't have internal estimates for half of the month... Mort is talking about estimates util the third week of January... and I can't see Xbone changing the situation in the last two weeks.

The gap in US will increase... ~150k in December to close 300k in January in my opinion... February will be even bigger with inFAMOUS... before Titalfall it will be over 500k.
