Forums - Microsoft - I Think Microsoft Should Enter The Handheld Market

No that would be a terrible idea. Handheld market is dying and can't support two platforms anymore. The 3DS is way down from it's predecessor, and the Vita is bombing everywhere but Japan. Japan incidentally is the one market where Microsoft can't get a decent foothold in.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The Handheld market doesn't need xbox handheld, Im very happy with my Vita right now

I'm going to go invest in CD's right now as well. Handhelds are starting to die off. Sony is probably going to leave after this gen, and Nintendo probably has one more ok gen. Plus, let's look at microsoft's impressive track record with hardware. There's the first xbox, zune, surface. and windows phone. So as of now, they're have 5 major devices, and one isn't a failure. So no, they shouldn't go into hand held.

That should work. Then Sony wouldn't be the only one to fail on doing it.

They already have, it's called a windows phone.

Agreed.

No idea why some don't understand that iPhones, Androids, tablets, WP8, etc... are gaming devices.

WP is first and foremost a smartphone, not a dedicated gaming machine. I think that's what OP is getting at.

But they won't...because the market has changed. The new market is rapidly approaching. Phones are the way to go.

Well, they already have SmartGlass which works to extend your console onto your phone and tablet. Plus it can run a bunch of games including mobile versions of Halo, Fable, and Kinectimals. So they already have their favorite properties on mobile devices - it's just that they are phones, and not dedicated gaming devices.

And they just bought Nokia. I don't see mobile devices lasting any more than Cisco thought the Flip camera would last. It's why they dropped Zune - the market wasn't there anymore. Nintendo is still selling the 3DS, but I can see them wanting to add Skype.

PS Can anyone confirm if the mobile games work on Android and iphone through the SmartGlass app or is that only for Windows Phones.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

Terrible idea. Handhelds are dying a slow death.

Ms should not enter the hand held market.

There is little to no need for MS to even consider a dedicated handheld gaming device though. It would be a total failure in the current market.

Smartphones and tablets are more than adequate.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

No, as much as I love Sonys handhelds I still don't even think they should have entered it.
