Forums - Microsoft - Rumour: New Studio for Crackdown 3, Q1 2016, Ruffian working on Xbox Exclusive for 2+ years. Halo 2 Anniversary Nov 11th

Ah Gaf insiders, I thought the Xbox community hates them with a passion and thinks they're all just liars making up shit to make the X1 and Microsoft look bad, why's this one different? :D

Though I shouldn't speak, me being more on the PS side of things I naturally have to believe everything any insider on Gaf says.

What I'm trying to say is, it's a rumour and should be treated as such, though it doesn't seem entirely improbably especially the Halo 2 part, I always thought 2014 would be too early for Halo 5 and that would fit in with that.

Edit: Too slow, thread title already changed

Well, to be fair Thuway is a complete fucking bullshitter and cboat has been slipping up lately.

Really? It tells me they needed a decent game they could give out for free and found something they knew nobody was buying anymore.

It sold 1.7 million copies on the back of Halo 3 7 years ago. The sequel then sold 1 million copies 3 years later. By the time C3 comes out it would have been another 5 years. They are building upon a dead series. A new IP will have the same chances of selling well as C3 does.

They could have picked a lot of different games to give away, they chose Crackdown because its a classic. Also, they probably chose that game to make the fanbase bigger incase they continue it.

MS is already bringing several new IPs. On top of that, they might make a new Crackdown. MS is pleasing people who want a new Crackdown and new IPs. Everybody wins!

If 3 sold 1.7 million copies it would be from it's own merit, not the series name.

Yeah...you're really not making much sense.

When a sequel comes out it gets carry over sales from it's predecessor. When a new IP comes out it has to build it's popularity from the ground up. Crackdown was already a relatively small series 5 years ago, by now it's popularity is likely small enough to be negligible. So if C3 sold 1.7 million copies it would be selling them by its own merit (like a new IP) and very little because of the original games. Hence i think they are better off just making a new IP, the risk would be about the same either way.

Does that makes sence? Sorry if it wasn't clear in that post.

Such awesome exclusive news for xbox lately. Its not like mocroaoft to be constantly taking news with exclusive news.

That is one hell of a typo :D

I get what you're saying, but you're just assuming things.  In a perfect world with conditions that fit your argument, your argument would stand and I would agree.  But there are so many other factors.  Do you have an approximate, factual gauge as to how big or how small the Crackdown fanbase is?  Do you know if Crackdown 2 sold poorly (selling 1 million+ for a game with 8 months development time is still pretty good, imo) due to poor scores and feedback or if it was due to what you said?

Isn't starting out with an already formed fanbase (Crackdown) better than starting out with no prior fanbase (new IP)?

And that guy is someone I personally have never heard about, so that puts all of them on kinda equal footing in my eyes :D

He isn't as rude as other leakers, so that's a big plus in my book.

The first game had good reviews and came with the Halo 3 beta and still only pulled off 1.7 million copies. My point is the series is not worth building upon, it's dead as a door nail, so why not make something new?

Because if 3 sells 1.7m it's certainly not dead as a doornail, that's why. It's a lot to just expect a new Ip to do 2m+

If 3 sold 1.7 million copies it would be from it's own merit, not the series name.

Yeah...you're really not making much sense.

You know why?

Because pretty everywhere I go, all the forums I visit, whenever Crackdown 3 is mentioned, I always see a good number of people in the thread react positively and saying they will buy it for the xbox one, given their past experiences with the original Crackdown.  Now, you're saying that CD 3 would need to completely rebuild their fanbase and start from scratch to build merit, right?  Well, seeing as how a ton of people want Crackdown 3 (and this is even without any Crackdown 3 confirmation or info/media), your argument is terribly flawed.

What's flawed is your argument, sales = real data, internet forums are such a tiny portion of a games user bae they are irrelevant.
