Forums - Sales - Weekly WiiU sales > 360 sales, WiiU Jan 14 > WiiU Jan 13, WiiU saved?

The difference between Wii U 2013 and Wii U 2014, will be more evidente if we see a flux of titles for Wii U, throughout the year.
Last year`s line-up was more targeted at casuals, non-gamers and families. But that same market still doesn`t know what Wii U is.

This year, it`s geared more towards core gamers: DK, Mario Kart 8, Smash, B2, X, Hyrule Warriors, FExSMT, Yoshi, Zelda and other surprises.
This line-up will be more effective in selling the Wii U, seeing as it`s target consumer knows what Wii U is.

Wii-U is overtracked. Nintendo announced today that they have shipped 5.86 million Wii-U's by the end of January, VGChartz already has the Wii-U at over 5.6 million sold with more than a week to go.

You sure not by the end of December?

Yes, he's wrong. VGC numbers seem pretty accurate.

Shipments at the end of December=shipments at the end of January unless a product is in high demand, they probably didn't have any new shipments after the holiday's. Also Nintendo is expecting 2.8 million shipped for this fiscal year, while VGChartz already has the Wii-U at 2,72 million for this fiscal year.(with more than two months to go).

It's not a dramatic increase in the Wii U's sales performance; it's more the dramatic decrease in the 360's sales performance, the thing is in freefall. Are we gonna have these threads every time a big releases and causes a temporary spike as well?

Judging strictly by headlines, one would think the WiiU's sales are in freefall. That was the case through spring/summer/early fall 2013. Not the case anymore. It's staying right where it is, possibly a little ahead relative to seasonal sales levels. It basically has some of the same momentum it had immediately post-holiday, post-launch. Not necessarily a breakthrough success, more like the beginning of a bittersweet victory. Firmly charting a Gamecube-like legacy, not a dreamcast one.

There also hasn't been a major WiiU release in, well, several months. As for when the major releases do come -- yes you probably will not hear the end of it. And you will be sick of it. Get over it.

It's because 360 is dying.

Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Super Mario 3D World aren't major releases? One can also note that the one region where the Wii U has no 8th gen competition and has had the most time with above mentioned titles is also the one with the biggest decline since the holidays, this should overshadow any sales week beating the dying 360 at any rate.

At least you seem reconciled with the likely fact that the Wii U will end up at Gamecube levels, a lot of people are very far behind you in that regard. I'm honestly not trying to offend you here; I assumed you were part of the "wait and see, it will beat the others in time!" crowd, which you are clearly not.

Yay it's beating a console on its last leg,
It's also selling more than ps2 and sega genesis combined thus month , wii u success!

Granted 360 is selling on 2008 prices and is in its 9th year. WiiU is competing against the $299 250 gig 360/$299 4gig with Kinect 360. You could argue 360's library is worth more then what WiiU is packing, also the graphics are pretty close to each other.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

You have a console in what should be a peak year selling 40-something thousand units weekly, with Japan sales for the next week showing another 2k decline. and you talk about being saved?

Weekly sales go-up and down relative to the season.

What I'm saying is that WiiU weekly sales are greater-than or equal to weekly sales compared to the same period last year. A 2k week-over-week drop isn't as important as how much more/less successful this period the same period in prior year.

If that trend can continue for the short-term, and given the shifts in the marketplace, and the expected releases come out, we at the least see the WiiU on track for a Gamecube-like legacy, not a Dreamcast one.

We're setting the bar for "saved" a reasonably low level here -- basically meaning the console can sustain itself for this generation.

Ehh. Don't be so surprised. The 360 is  not a console that will stay alive for longer periods of time.

True enough. I think its safe to say we're seeing unprecedented momentum for the launches of both X1 and PS4. I'd wager the WiiU's post-holiday decline is more in line in % is more in line with what we historically see for most consoles (but maybe I'm wrong)

Well Wii Party U and 3D world were about 2 months. That's a pretty decent stretch of time.

I'd guess Wii Fit U is a major release though. That one's kind of an oddball though. An old gimmick (Balance board) + new gimmick (Gamepad) + a reasonable fit tracker. What that really does for Nintendo now is hard to figure.
