Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft acquired Gears of War rights. Black Tusk to develop the games

For the people wondering about Black Tusk's New Ip this is from Black Tusk. And seeing as Gears was just bought it will likely be years before the next gears.

“Big games, big teams, big budgets, long timelines […] What that means is we are working on Microsoft’s next big entertainment franchise. We’re not working on an existing franchise, we’re looking to build the next Halo here in Vancouver, for example, which is really exciting. We are building something from the ground up.”

About that.

"The thing we showed at E3 last year, it was something that was done in Unreal and more of a concept piece," Spencer said, calling it "an asset" created by the team to get their creative juices flowing, not necessarily an in-development game.

"The studio has really been incubating different ideas over the past six to nine months on what they might work on," he said, "but the discussion with Epic obviously didn't start yesterday. We've been in this discussion for a while. The leadership team there has known for a while."

And to top it off...

is this a recent quote?

...building up a big franchise only to discard it before it releases to use the gears IP seems, weird.   either they already have two teams or maybe their existing game will be reskinned with the gears IP.   i just can't see them putting all the work to "build the next halo" only to pick up the gears IP...

wheren't they the ones alongside 343 to work on multiple projects? (due to number of employees?)

So hyped, I expect this "next Halo" from Black Tusk to be this year and Gears in 2016-2017

My guess is next year is the new ip.

- in 2012 they had 55 employees and still hiring.
- 2013 they said they were working on 4 core titles
-2013 released a tech demo at E3
-2013 microsoft Vitoria got relocated to Black Tusk and Big Park Studios expanding employees
-2014 Microsoft acquires Gears

From what we know theyre working on a new ip and didnt acquire a huge team until most likely sometime in 2013.  Phil Spencer says it is like 343i so my guess is they are a pretty big studio.

The thing is, i dont believe they started working on their game until 2013 so 2015 at the earliest i believe with a 2/3 year life cycle.  Since gears was just bought itll at least be another 2/3 years for it so i agree with the 2016-2017 for Gears.

I've been seeing xbox supporters say the franchise had run it's course. I don't expect this to be big news all of a sudden or is that attitude going to change now that a PS4 version is less likely?

After Judgement, yes, Gears ran it's course. But now that Epic isn't lazily handling the franchise yes our attitude has changed.

And it is a plus that it will never come to PS4.

Hmmm. That last statement makes you sound like Callum_Alexander. Yes, this site does need improvement.

Is that photoshopped?

I had hoped it would come to PS for the wife who loves this series (this and Left 4 Dead). Oh well, can't have them all.

Why is this big news? The other 4 games in the series have all been on Xbox. It's like if Sony announced the next Ratchet and Clank is exclusive to playstation... no shit...

Because Epic's exclusivity deal is up.

Remember those threads with Sony fans getting hyped over what seemed to them 100% chance that the next gears of war will be on ps4? I gotta find those and get a good laugh XD
What's even funnier is that most of these guys will probably revert to "meh, GoW isn't that good" mode.

It's sour grapes.  Human nature.

Hmm, idk then.  They siad they were working on multiple projects so i would assume that is still the case but im just basing it off of what theyve said and nothing is ever confirmed until an actual announcement.
