Hoorray?

I love Gears, but honestly, the series should end, now. There's no room for more games unless they feel like a forced cash-in. Judgment, for what it was, was good; but the human vs human online was awful.

No, this series should rest. Ignore a complete generation, just like Killer Instinct ignored the 360, and then come back onto their next console, if there's any after the X1.

Actually there is no reason any series should end as long as it has a developed Universe.  Instead, people who love a franchise should consider going in different direction or further developing the Universe.  I like how IPs are going to new studios to give them a fresh take on a series.  Even if it does not work out all the time, it does bring something different and fresh to the series.

It should be interesting how the games will develop under a new company.  I hope they have something to show this year but I doubt it.

Then don't make the dumb move of "ending" the "trilogy". Same shit happened with Halo. Now we're at Halo 4, with Halo 5 on development, after Halo: Reach and ODST. I mean what the fuck.

They could even go down a whole new path. Keep the same universe and gameplay but entirely new enemy. Gears 3 pretty much wrapped up the Lambant / Locust conflict. In the Gears of War universe there are other planets besides Sera.

I dont think black tusk scrapped there new ip

I also dont believe they did.  Rod Ferguson's first day working with Black Tusk is today.  Which means Gears really hasnt even been in developement.  I highly doubt that Black Tusk has nothing from the two years they were established.

Yeah theres no way ms just paid bt to sit there while they tried to get gears

It's always been an exclusive hardly a megaton.

So explain why the entire internet is blowing up about it

Definition of a Megaton.

Well, the internet likes to blow alot of things out of proportion. I think the biggest news here is that there is going to be a new Gears at all, that at least surprised me very much as Epic didn't look to have any interest in continuing the franchise, which is, as I'm pretty sure, the biggest reason why MS bought the IP at all.

Now in the "Console War" I think it's neither a big blow to the PS4 nor a big win for the X1, especially since the game is still so far off, it's just very good news for Gears fans, who to a large percentage were probably going to get an X1 anyway (or already have one).

I'm in the minority apparently as I enjoyed Judgement (mostly loved OverRun). I think the big news here aside from acquiring the IP is that Rod Fergusson is back. Imagine it like how SOCOM people are hyped up for H-Hour just because David Sears is involved.

Either way a megaton for MS as Gears was basically THE 7th gen franchise.

That would still be COD ;)

?? I don't see anyone blowing it up, it's just being reported like every other game news story, it's always beenexclusive and people see it as an xbox franchise, nothing has changed

Ah, but this changes everything.

Microsoft now own it. It belongs to them. They can take it in the direction they wish, with a developer they think will push the franchise forward.

This is huge news, simply because Microsoft now have a guaranteed exclusive thats capable of selling 6-7 Million units.

Seems like a bit of a waste. Gears was a great trilogy, but they already ran it into the ground with the prequel.

I do not know about you but ending the Gears arch for that series was smart.  People like conclusions to a story.  That does not mean there are not other stories that can be made within the universe.  TV, Movies and Books etc do this all the time.  Hell, Final Fantasy made a living doing this and you can put Bioshock there as well.  A story arch should have a conclusion but the Universe can continue.

Final Fantasy, the Neverending Story of video games.

Final Fantasy Universe has no correlation between games except for direct sequels (and Dissidia). Final Fantasy IV has nothing to do with Final Fantasy V, but it has to do with After Years. Bioshock Infinite, as a game itself, was great; but it is the most divisive Bioshock among fans, especially from the departure of Rapture to Columbia.

Gears ended. There's no point on going forward considering how things ended up in Gears 3. It wouldn't even make sense to create a new war considering only a few COG and stranded people are alive at that point, and the rest of the planet is pretty much dead.  Judgment tried to capitalize on the E-Day and it failed. There's no point in keeping this series - for now - alive. It should be dormant.
