Forums - Gaming Discussion - HAs sony abandoned move/ps4 camera?

Someone from Sony just said the other day that they have plans for the Camera and that right now the main use for the Camera is to record or stream yourself. The Playroom is pretty much a demonstration of what to expect for how they will use the Camera in future software. Not necessarily the kind of games they will bring but how the Camera could, and in some cases will, be used. As far as the Move goes they simply said, "Don't throw it away".

In many European regions the PS4 cam is selling better than XB1 especially because of Just Dance and The Playroom which is quite popular on Twitch and UStream. x}

I won't buy it unless it gets a killer app like Sports Champions though.

No, of course not. Women could make a good use of it.

Not any more than Microsoft and kinect, the casual are just not there in enough numbers yet, little timmy is 14 now and he is busy looking at porn on pornhub, little Lisa is posting nude on instagram, Mommy is getting drunk while fucking the neighbor, dad is back at work since the recession is over, gamgam is dead and Johnny is playing cod

Dude, what the heck!?

The PS Move seemed as *gimmicky* as the Wii Nunchuck. I don't see to much more coming from it. The PS4 Camera, however, is an Omegle app away from being a household equivalent to the PS4, in my opinion...

Maybe, I am just curious if sony will work to add more functionalty and make it more appealing as the life cyclie goes on or will it be an afterthought like move?

Another aspect of this is...is SONY tip-toeing around the widespread applications/use of the PS4 camera because of the whole spy situation?  A situation that, in my opinion, has helped cripple the Xbox One's potential as much as it's weaker specs...I think SONY cannabalized the PS4 camera from the PS4 pack-in bundle because of this, and figured that if perception changes later (as far as this spying scandal), they can immediately jump back into the driver's seat with apps/games supporting it...

Media Molecule is working in the use of it...

Also there was the launch title The Play Room which used it

The Bitch is back! And better then ever! #BritneyReturns

SONY Bring them BACK for PS4 and VITA!

They havent abandoned it, they just havent forced it onto developers. Its optional but clearly few developers see the point of it.
This is how it should be.

Yeah the backlash to Kinect really changed things. I kinda wish the cam stayed as a forced add on like Kinect 2, but market certainly were happy they dropped it.

I know indies will be using it a lot, and probably by the end of the year multiplat games will have their kinect features ported over.

KZ SF should have left move controls in, maybe the sdk wasn't finished yet? Why remove it, there were plenty of people that used it.

The stereo cam and higher resolution should add much more accurate depth perception of the move. Something like tumble should work a lot better.

I would be happy with pointer controls for point and click adventures (although the ds3 air mouse pointer is fine for that too) A full fledged 1st person adventure with Datura type controls would be awesome, the next Myst.

Since the camera is selling quite well I hope it's only a matter of time before developers start experimenting. For now it's all multiplatform (ready) / cross generation to make the most money, and any console specific features are not worth the extra cost.
