Forums - Gaming - HAs sony abandoned move/ps4 camera?

I think Sony have been incredibly clever this generation in multiple ways, but perhaps with the camera most of all. You see, I imagine at some point the camera was included with the console and was later cut to reach a more affordable price-point, something that makes the console a lot more desirable than the competition's. This may look like they don't care about the camera, but I don't think that is the case.

When you look at Kinect, what do you dislike? Is it the voice commands, or is it the need to wave your arms around? I would bet my life it is the latter as the former is actually quite cool; a gimmick for sure, but cool and handy nonetheless. You may be wondering where I am going with this.

So developers look at Kinect - an integral part of the Xbox experience - and see what voice commands they can implement alongside the less enjoyable/intuitive motion controls. They then code the voice commands as every Xbox has a Kinect, but they also look at the PlayStation camera - which many but not all people have - and think that they can easily make the voice commands work for the PlayStation version of their game. They then decide to include voice commands for the PlayStation version of their game too - see Tomb Raider.

Do you see my point now? Sony don't really need to push the camera as Microsoft are doing it for them, whilst allowing Sony to maintain a cheaper price-point. When Microsoft included Kinect they made it necessary for developers to use the device in some way, shape or form. Thus making developers push Sony's device too. Very clever Sony.

The ps4 has had an incredible launch, no one can deny that. One thing that has bothered me though, the ps4 camera. it is a very capable camera, but it has zero software for it (MS has this issue with kinect and that is bundled with the console), is sony selling the camera strictly as a device for streaming and video chat at this point, or will they try to support it with some software and move as well like sports champions 2 for instance? Is there a plan to at least make more use of it? Not a huge deal to me as I hate motion controls but I am thinking bigger picture for sony here.

One thing sony does not do a good job with is supporting secondary devices/peripherals imo, Move seemed to be abandoned as well.

IT HAS BEEN 3 monthd since launch.  Talk to us in 6 months if nothing has changed...

Couldn't Sony add Move controls through Patches like they done to Resident Evil?

A lot of PS4 functionalities seems to be promissed but will be added later. Maybe move support for 1st parties will come son.

You're correct they did it with RE5 Gold Edition (patched MOVE support). I forgot about that patch for a second. Then again that is a 3rd party title. I'm not sure if any Sony 1st party games have ever been patched with MOVE support after release. hmmmm

Probably not, because most of the games that could have Move effectively had them from release, and I don't remember them updating older games with move (which could be a nice addition to legacy GOTY and blockbuster titles, and warranty some other hundreds K of sales).

Yes sony are doing it just to be mean..please.

Of course they are dicks. That's why they refuse to make the light optional. You know for people who don't play with a hundred friends or swing it around like a motion controller.

They are doing this to specifically annoy me.  Only explanation.

There is no need to make it optional. Your blowing a tiny thing out of proportion/.

Tiny thing for you, big dealbreaker for me.

It absolutely limits my enjoyment of the games I am playing in my dark room. So that's obviously their goal since they refuse to  change it for me.

400€ console but forgot to code a light switch. Well they didn't forget to code it because developers have full control over the light. But god forbid users get that switch in their hands. Unthinkable that some gamers wouldn't want a flashlight on their tv or like to play longer than 7h straight.

For the gamers!

Will give you a tip, like some game to people with problems with kinect... don't like the light, tape it.

If I tape it Sony wins.
