Forums - Nintendo - Wii U will have a good 2014

How will Wii U do in 2014?

Great 96 33.33%

Good 92 31.94%

Decent 54 18.75%

Bad 29 10.07%

Horrible 17 5.90%

Total:288

Here are my expectations on the potential situations that can occur in 2014 and their effects on sales, and this situation is only if Nintendo's management remains stable and includes the continuation of Wii U as a part of their strategy going forward. This is not certain at this point after the announcement of the third consecutive year of losses which might cause shareholders to want management and Iwata's announcement of considering a new business model might indicate that the current management is thinking radically changing their direction; we will get a better picture of this management situation in Jaunary 30th and later in April; but the stability of management cannot be guaranteed until late-June (with Nintendo's annual shareholders meeting).

With all of this being said here is my prediction:

Individual strategies under assumption that current management stays stable:
1. With the current software lineup (which I assume will be enhanced by E3 2014).
2. With a $50 price cut
3. With a $100 price cut (potentially con-current with a cost cutting re-design)
4. Discontinuation of Wii & Wii Mini

Results based on strategies that have been combined:
1= around 3.3 million
1+2(and potentially+4)= around 3.8-4.2 million (this is what I assume Nintendo will do; actual figures will depend on advertising and bundles).
1+3= around 7-8 million
1+3+4= around 7.5-8.5 million (sweet spot sales wise)

A bit steep there with that $100 price drop. What they should do is advertise the Wii U heavily. The price is not the problem, the marketing is.

Theese numbers seems ok... if you are talking about EUA only.

Anyway, the only way to wiiiu suceed sadly involves X1 and PS4 having a rough year. Put delays and games turning out beeing pretty bad(doubt will happen) and then everynintendo game getting high praise(dout this too), and then nintendo has a good chance.

WiiU will have good games. But will not recieve the sales that deserves.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I'm sticking to my 10m this year so yeah a pretty good year

Id like to see a break down of that 300% increase.

6.5m sounds a bit high to me. Over 100% YOY increase.
I'd say around 4.5m, but only because of the better software line-up.

Yeah, 100% YoY is a huge increase and Im not betting Nintendo reaching 6m because of that (I made a prediction thread about it) but when 100% is only equal to less than 3m then higher % increases are easier to get. Still, that means Nintendo absolutely needs to sell 115k a week from here on out (which it hasnt yet)
