Forums - Gaming - Nintendo just needs to go third party on consoles only

Needs?!

Not at all. They still have their handheld market. While not as big as the home market one, its still considerable.

The 3DS is outselling all other Video Game Systems each and every week, and always has several softwares dominating the top 10 sold softwares of the week

No, they should retain their hardware but this "overclocked last gen hardware with unique controller" nonsense has to end. At least have Half the power of the competition, have a well thought out conventional controller. For pete's sake get REAL third party support, like a of Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (a non sucky one please). Launch with Mario or Zelda out the gate. Do online right, make third partys have their own storefronts online if need be. Change your image, no blood needed. More Link and Samus less Mario and DK in the west at least. Unified achievements wont kill you Nintendo, damn. Start innovating. Stop playing NICE.

My favorite quotes are ones where people list things Sony and Microsoft have and say Nintendo needs to do them things and equate that with INNOVATING.

Innovating is doing somehting that other companies are not.  Adding trophies, getting 3rd parties that the other consoles have, some other online feature the others have, ect.  THAT IS NOT INNOVATING.

Well acheviements were a REAL innovation. We have them on consoles, PCs and tablets now. Online features not traditionally associated with Consoles are innovation.  What XBox Live did for consoles, was innovation. XBox One trigger feedback == innovation. Its not like Microsoft or Sony always "had" these things. Family sharing which got trashed on X1 was an inovation. Valve is doing the EXACT same thing and everyones singing their praises. Miiverse was an innovation, one of the few things the WiiU got right, it wont fade away after one generation. Theres alot of innovation in the industry if you blinded by brand loyalty.

Not arguing over what is innovative or not, just saying adding achieventment would not INNOVATIVE for Nitnendo since other consoles already do that.  That would just be getting up to code, copying, following trends, ect.  Whatever you want to call it.

BUT it would not be innovative.  Innovation is doing something new and unique and something not seen before, not copying what others are doing.

In summary you dont need inferior hardware, radically new controllers that get dropped after one generation and zero third party support to be "unique". It wouldnt hurt to have a reasonably powerful, well executed,  conventional console with compelling games, good online and extra features either.

Don't you have a PC to play third party games on?

most console owners don't have gaming pc, infact most only own one console, only the very hardcore own 2 consoles or console+pc combo. every console has exclusives i'm interested in, sony 1st party being the best for me, nintendo coming in second and microsoft coming in third but if sony switched places with nintedno weaker hardware, no thid party support, i would choose nintedo console in a second.

Just buy a cheap Windows 7 PC and you will have at least PS3/360 graphics.

a lot of HD twin games dont make it to PC or go later and thats not even counting 1st party.

So Nintendo should just ignore those things all together to stay "unique"?

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Because its a riskier business and because it ruins the diferentiating factor of their handheld gaming device (nintendo games).

being thirdparty is not a riskier business, and handheld and console is a totally different market, a handheld gamers just doesn't care about console gaming, othere wise n64, GC and wiiu would all be selling amazing. its 2 seperate markets, they have nothing to do with each othere.

Sorry but thats not true at all. The home console and the handheld market cross alot in the hardcore segment.

Most of us here on these forums own portables and home consoles. If we get our Nintendo fix on our home consoles, we are more likely to skip getting the portable.

So are you saying they got better going third party?

im saying it didnt get worst. they put out alot of nonsense and crap right after the Genesis, got better with Dreamcast damage was already done, they pretty much carried the DC like stuff with them to the PS2/GC/Xbox hell most of the games on those systems were enchanced ports and sequels. and the portable stuff was pretty good. Sega only just recently messed up but its fallacy that it was because they went 3rd party, they fell off for the same reasons, Tecmo, SE, Capcom etc fell off.

Haha... dont get me started Oniyide.

Present SEGA is nothing like old SEGA. And did you forget they required an unfavorable merger with Sammy to survive? They had 9 development teams where today they have what? 3?

Dont play with us, theres no way to sugercoat the fact that SEGA got alot worse by going third party. Many of their games wich had their audience on SEGA consoles could not find an audience on the new consoles. The same exact thing would happen to Nintendo. Nintendo games sell to Nintendo fans for the most part. Where would these be without Nintendo systems? The Playstation? the Xbox? the Vita? The PC? Nowhere/left gaming? Everywhere? You have no clue.

So, what is the development of one quality SKU has to become the development of several spreading your efforts to find an audience. Its not as simple as you make it sound and its not as risk free as Drake4 thinks.

They need to just go thirdparty on consoles, they just don't have the core market that sony and microsoft, they can't compete and nintendo knows that and thats why they made the wii, and it was a huge success but thats not happening again the blue ocean market has moved on, they are stuck with out a market and no third party support, chances of being succesful are nearly impossible, the console is really hurting the company, they better focusing on handhelds and making x1 and ps4 games.

Sony and MS need to go third party on Nintendo. If a company deserves to be a console manufacturer than it is Nintendo because they at least innovate.

Nintendo just decided to make "cheap low tech" hardware because of MS and Sony.  So by not buying Nintendo hardware people actually forced Nintendo to be the Nintendo it is right now.  Even more focus on new stuff(even more because they also innovate when there is no competition at all) instead of more power.   Think about it.

And btw noone would buy Sony and MS games when Nintendo games hit Sony and MS consoles  you know like third party on nintendo :)    /Jk

Yes, because that would totally be worth it. It obviously has worked out great for Sega, yes? Still just as great as in their glory days, yes?

Oh wait.....

please Sega was messing up long before they went 3rd party, they went 3rd party because they messed up and even after they did they were still good for awhile

So their goal should be to invest more money and not be worse. I would hate to go into n investor's meeting with that strategy.

And Sega gets most of it's money from Sega Sammy, so nintendo should get involved with gambling and leave the console market completely. ;p

My take on it is no one really knows what they should do because that is the state of the industry right now. It's in a huge transition where things are very much unsure. Nintendo picked a hell of a time to have a soft launch and post launch. Consumers are confused by their direction and rightfully so. They will figure something out though. They've been expanding for a reason.

I'm honestly not sure anyone knows what to do at this point. Microsoft is probably the most succesful at this point and they started out this generation back tracking. This will be interesting to see in two to three years.

What a fantastic idea.
We all know how well that panned out for SEGA.

Please stop these threads.

thats funny cause you could easily get your nintedo fix on the 3ds instead of wiiu, you have a brand new zelda on 3ds, mario land, and mario kart so this applys to wiiu as well, samething with the wiiu.
