If that were to happen then I would expect a very, very nice Ambassador package.
As in like some free games and some limited edition swag.

Good news everyone. Nintendo is back to their senses. Their previous forecasts looked like something John Lucas would come up with but that's over now.

Depends on how they handle the sitution... If they do that and offers a free upgrade or a massive upgrade discount, I wouldn't mind but in the eyes of the public, it will seem weak... If you are gonna make a flagship product that doesn't work, well you have to make it work or else people will lose faith in your company

I'm not sure that would be feasible... they basically have to ride with the Wii U at this point. That being said, the Wii U might have a relatively short lifespan if they don't already have something big in the pipeline. It's a ticking clock till December.
But IF that happened, I'd be pissed off but I'd probably buy it. I just enjoy Nintendo games too much, and I wouldn't not buy them just out of (well deserved) spite.
I think for sure now another Nintendo platform is coming for 2015, maybe even sooner if possible. Probably a tablet type of device. They need another product line that can generate profit.
The whole "don't worry even if Wii U sells like GameCube, Nintendo will make lots of money off 3DS!" line of reasoning has to be thrown out the window looking at these results.
| Soundwave said: It's sad because Iwata is so likable personally, but damnit there is something rotten in Nintendo's culture that they can't ever seem to stay on top of things. They always get lazy and out of touch with the market and end up paying dearly for it, the difference with Yamauchi was that he was able to keep the company profitable during down stretches, but this is now two lost years of losses under Iwata. Unacceptable. The worst thing about it is it's not like the Wii U launch should've been something Nintendo was dumb founded by. They had been taught a humbling lesson from the 3DS already, but they then just go ahead and screw up the Wii U launch as well despite promises that they had learned their lesson. |
I like him, but when when you miss your target by 6.2 million (and about 5 million for 3DS?) someone has to take the hit. Nintendo released two systems with fun gimmicks and then forgot to create software that used those gimmicks... Just a bad decision.
2.8 million still seems generous. End of last years financials wii u was at 3.9million shipped. Currently wii u sales are at 5.3 million it states on VG Chartz. They are basically saying they will sell another 1.4 million consoles in about 10 weeks when they have only sold 1.4 million consoles over the last 42 weeks including christmas. January to March are pretty lean months for console sales normally. If it gets to 6 million consoles by the end of March they will be lucky. So even 2.8 million is non realistic.
Nintendo only have themselves to blame. They tried to sell an underpowered console at a highly inflated price so they could make huge profits but this time they totally failed to get the balance right. For multiformat games it can't match 360 and PS3 most of the time. Big price cuts to come and the wii u will have a fairly short life I think.

Yup, I had that immediate "alarm bells going off" feeling when I first heard the reports that Project: Cafe (Wii U) was going to be roughly in line with the PS3/360 in horsepower ... you can't come up with the miracle controller gimmick every time, there's just too many variables that can go wrong.
Nintendo would have been better off if they let NOA do its thing like they did in the past. NOJ atm controls Reggie's balls.
They really do need some western talent to sell their systems.
