I don't know about the show, but the books are good. I don't want to taint my vision with the tv show, not touching it. There isn't that much sex in the books, epic battles yes.

This.
Game of Thrones TV show is like well done Shakespeare. What someone says, and what they mean are often two different things. And it's so well done, that many people can get the differences. The stakes are very high for many of what the people do. If you don't feel empathy for them, then yea, you aren't going to realize what risk they are taking all the time.
I tell people to give it at least 3 episodes before you dismiss it. While I do think it goes a bit overboard sometimes, I think it is one of the best shows on television. I had to watch the first few ones more than once to get it, and now I love it.
But hey, if you don't get or like it, it just might not be the show for you.
Questions:
Did you really sit and watch it? Or was it 'on in the background.'
It's a complex show with many characters. After watching seasons 1-3, and going back to the first. You realize, every single word ever said by anyone is important.
I felt the same way when I first started. I had to watch the first few episodes a few times before I could make it farther into the series, and I got very confused because there were soooooo many characters.
Eventually you figure it out though, and it is fantastic. You have a few months before the new season starts, try and catch up. I recommend trying to push through atleast the first season. Once I got past the first few episodes I was hooked.
Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League
It's more about interesting characters and good writing than it is about "stuff happening". Stuff does happen, but it's not the main point of the show. I view it as a drama more than anything else, but I guess people expect a swords-and-sorcery sort of deal.
Currently playing:
Bloodbath Paddy Wagon Ultra 9
i 'm gonna jump in to ask a question: inthe final ep of season 2 why is the little stark boy sent away from castle black?

An enormous amount happened in the first half of Season 1, and yet it is considerably slower than the rest of the series (like the opening of every show ever).
I can't really speak to the experience of being a new show watcher, since I read books 1-5 before I started watching, but at least give it until the end of the first season before you give up.
I watched the first two seasons, kind of got into it, but can't get any hype going for season 3. It's just don't care enough about the characters and the many story lines. I recommend abandoning ship.
i dont get the hype, okay, its realy good tv, but the backstory is just weak and the lore isnt so great too.
